The main reason I go to thrift stores is to collect speakers like this for cheap. 10 bucks for a pair I consider a good thrift but lately I see ridiculous prices 😄

Yea, everybody at the thrift stores today are eBay resellers. Only the resellers who bribe the employees to put aside the good stuff for them get the best deals. I don't know if this behavior is nationwide but I see it a lot here in southern New-England.

If you're looking for an extremely compact 5.1 system, this one sounds really good and much better than almost any soundbar. Nice used 5.1 receivers are cheap and really easy to find these days.

I bought one of these in the 90s and it was amazing. If the quality is the same as it was then, this is a fantastic deal.

This system seems to be from around 2008. I don't know if these are new-old stock, or if the current parent company, Rayleigh Lab (headquartered in Shenzhen, China), started making these again.

This seems like a decent starter system for the price. Just know that the 200 watt sub is actually 50 watt RMS.

Got the system 10 plus years ago and it still sounds great. And it doesn't need an overly expensive av receiver. Any budget receiver will power this well and get you better surround and effects than any sound bar system. Just make sure to place the subwoofer in the front next to the center speaker for the best sound

Thrift shops only sell junk at their stores, the good stuff is sold at their website and at a premium price.

Energy along with NHT and Boston Acoustics brought the concept of quality sounding "bookshelf" speakers at an experience price. Sadly, I doubt there is any connection to their past other than the re-sold name and and

I got this set from woot 3 years ag1o for $190 it's a decent starter set for sure. That being said for the $300 i'm not sure it's worth it, since at that price you can find probably used higher quality bookshelf + center speakers if you're lucky and not in a rush.
Still, if size is a concern, these are very small which is a plus. I am still using the satellites, as rear and side speakers, but no longer for the front or center speakers.
