The Poulan Pro PR5020 is a 50 cc, 20 inch gas chainsaw that stands out for the $99 deal price and included case. It has enough power to be compared with the Husqvarna 450, and the saw can be tuned with a 16 inch bar for more bite. The main tradeoffs are weight, harder starting, and the need for regular small engine maintenance. Long term reliability is the biggest concern, with reports of carb and running issues over time, so it fits best if you want a budget gas saw and do not mind upkeep.

Common Questions (4)

  • No. The $99 price is location-dependent and can vary by store; some nearby stores show $150 instead. It has been confirmed at $99 in San Diego and for pickup, so it's a true YMMV deal.

  • It is heavy and not especially easy to start, but it can be dependable when needed. Long-term owners also note that small-engine maintenance matters, and some report reliability problems or carb-related issues over time.

  • Yes. The price can jump to $149 on a Pro account, while a personal account can keep it at $99. Using a personal account may be necessary to see the lower price.

  • Yes, it reportedly comes with a case, which is notable for a saw under $100. That makes the package feel more complete than the bare tool alone.

Thanks, this is a good deal, and something I needed. At 20" it is bigger than my 18" 40 yr old chainsaw that is giving up the ghost..

I've had this saw for years. It's not super easy to start and it's heavy, but it seems to always come through when I need it. It's definitely a good deal at $99.

I have had one for about 8 years. I haven't been able to get it to run for the last 4. All sorts of issues. It disnt get used much. May just buy a new one instead of sending it to the shop. Cheaper or same price as the vevor saws
With 2stroke engines its best to run all the fuel out of it if you're going to let it sit for long periods of time… An electric saw might be best if already have dewalt or something similar batteries

Great deal. I have the 4218, it's baby brother. I'd buy this in a second if it was in stock. As mentioned the bad reviews are from people that don't understand small engines aren't maintenance free. Throw a 16 inch bar in this guy and it will be a beast.
And if maintenance isn't your thing, Oregon makes a plug in electric, self sharpening saw that is just add oil here and there and nothing else to do.

Maybe they make them better now then a few years ago. These are notorious for being problematic. Bought a like new used one a few years ago for $30. Owner could not keep it running. Replaced carb, tuned it up and got it running really good. Two years later it runs half arse. Probably cheap aftermarket carb related but I dont want to throw more money at it. From what I recall, best to increase spark plug gap and a few other things. To compare this to an Echo, Husqvarna, Stihl... is ridiculous. My 6 year old Echo cs352, carb mod and tuned, thats been heavily used still runs great. Original carb, lines, filter... and California ethanol 91 gas.

Despite all that, sure, for a $100 and 2 year warranty - why not.
