The rubber floats started deteriorating rapidly the tank would just have slime in it from this degradation . You could pass your hand over the floats and just layers of material stripped off. If I hadn't used it and it was just water doubt it would've happened. Nancy drew told me it was this.

I use these all the time. I 3d printed a little holder for them so they don't go down the drain prematurely. They last a week or two for me. Never more than that, but I am ok with it. Three people in an apartment means the toilets flush a lot. They smell good and do a good job of keeping things clean in the bowl.
