Community Reviews

This Hyper Tough 12V brushless drill driver is a compact, lightweight option aimed at light DIY and tight-space work, with enough punch for cabinet jobs, under-dash repairs, and long screw-driving sessions. The brushless motor, USB-C battery, locking chuck, and battery compatibility with older Hyper Tough packs add convenience, and the kit price is framed as strong for a brushless model. It also gets credit for handling wall studs and a full shed assembly project when paired with sharp bits. The main knocks are the plastic housing, limited battery runtime for longer jobs, and reports that performance drops with dull bits or feels weak compared with better 12V kits. A practical pick for small projects and portable use.

I loved the old craftsman 12 tools. Still use them. Will these batteries fit?

Will probably pick one up since apparently the batteries can fit my NexTec tools with a slight modification, and this has a USB C charge battery, so I'll always have a way to charge it wherever I am. And I can't find my NexTec drill at the moment, so this will be a good alternative drill.

What's the chuck like on this one? I got the metal chuck version of this drill on the clearance aisle for $21 (open box), and it's pretty darn impressive. I'd be in for this one for my daughter if the chuck doesn't suck. I like the locking chucks where you don't have to engage the motor to tighten the chuck (like my DeWalt, Milwaukee, and Craftsman all have), so I was pretty stoked to find that metal locking chuck on such an inexpensive tool.

I might pick one up tomorrow and find out.

Those were great tools. latest forever. I could not find batteries and already switched over to M12 kit. So I tossed them ~3 weeks ago.

I just realized it seems ridiculous to have these single-cell 18650 batteries in these battery packs when it would be much simpler and more efficient to simply use 18650 cells directly or, better yet, 26500 cells, since we'd eliminate much of the excess plastic housing.

Negative, not with Makita 12v. It's a complete different battery form factor. The old Hyper Tough 12v had a barrel jack charger. Now it is USB-C, but the shape is the same as the old Hyper Tough and can fit interchangeably.
