Royal basmati rice is the main draw here, with the deal landing at less than a dollar per pound and, after discounts, around the mid 20s for 30 pounds. The price is described as the best seen in about a year, and it fits everyday use for sides, biryani, and other savory dishes. Packaging is a recurring detail, with this version arriving in plastic bags with a faux jute look and a clear inner liner rather than true jute. The main cautions are that local club and Asian store prices can be close, and the brand is questioned for fragrance, grain length, and occasional chemical taste.

Common Questions (5)

  • It can be cheaper than Sam's Club or Costco once you compare total pounds and apply available discounts. The 2-pack is 30 lb total, and commenters calculated prices like $25.47 with free shipping or about $0.85/lb, versus roughly $20 for 20 lb at Sam's.

  • It arrives in plastic packaging, not a true jute bag. The bag is described as plastic with a fake jute-like texture, sealed with strings, and a clear plastic liner inside.

  • Some shoppers say it does not have the usual basmati fragrance and may not be true long-grain basmati. Others still use it regularly for sides and biryani, so the main appeal here is price rather than premium aroma.

  • Subscribe & Save is inconsistent on the item page, but it can appear after adding the rice to cart and checking out. One checkout path showed 5% off to $28.47, while another path reported the 15% discount when the subscription setup was available.

  • A simple method is to wash it twice, use 2 cups of water per 1 cup of rice, and cook it in an Instant Pot for 5 minutes. That ratio is the specific guidance shared for getting the rice to cook properly.

I've got some friends coming over next weekend. Should be enough for a group of 4. I just boil this stuff until the water evaporates, right?

for those that have received their order, what bag did it come in? plastic bags, or jute bag with a zipper????
Plastic with fake jute-like texture. Sealed at the top with strings. Clear plastic liner inside.

Wouldn't waste my money on Royal - doesn't have any Basmati fragrance nor is it long grain.
We've been getting this from Costco or Walmart for years and enjoy it. What do you recommend that's easily obtainable (as in I don't have to make a special trip to an Indian store)?

Costco sells the organic version of this, I forgot how much they're charging currently. They're in fabric bags.
You sure about that? I buy Royal basmati from Costco regularly, in that bag at that price, and it's never been organic. I just bought my most recent bag in May, and it definitely doesn't say organic on it. I wouldn't be surprised if they sold the organic version in some areas, but I have doubts that it would be the same price.

Also, just in case anyone reading this isn't aware, the major thing to worry about with rice is arsenic levels, and being organic does not reduce the arsenic level in rice in any way.

Wash the rice twice. For each cup of rice, add 2 cups of water, and cook it in instant pot for 5 minutes.

Arsenic is on every seed grown (rice/wheat etc) and is not a concern once you wash the rice 2-3 times (or until water is clear). Also, brown rice has significantly higher arsenic levels than white rice.

Either you are lying or are confused !
Organic Basmati can NOT be at that price, please do share a photo so we can believe you !!!
On another note, in Houston, we get Extra Long Basmati (much better than regular) for $1/lb !!!

Best price I've seen in about a year. We don't go very many days without Royal Basmati on the side or in a biryani.

There are other brands sold in local Indian stores which tastes much better and have different varients like long.

Royal basmati is generally not very good, but this price is really good. This would be like buying 16 oz. pasta sauce bottle for $2. Good deal, but do you really want it?

The pepper in me is churning to buy this!!! Don't do it....don't do it!!! [email protected] late.
Basmati ages well and improves in flavor. If you transfer to burlap sack and store in a pest free place, it should do well for years.

Yes, because Costco organic products have green price labels, and I remember the organic royal basmati bag with a green label. But this is a while ago, Costco switch out products constantly and might not sell it anymore.
