If you're set on Klipsch, you should definitely wait for RP-600M II to go on sale for ~$350, though I'd personally recommend KEF Q1 Meta or ELAC Debut.

$300 is criminal for 4" woofers. R line is never worth it, always opt for RP line.

Note that these R40-PMs are active speakers.

Are the Kef Q1 Metas even good? Heard the that whole line was overrated.

I went with Revel M16s for $300 a pair instead.

I have the Klipsch RP-600M II, which are passive (not powered) speakers.
The R-40PM speakers, on the other hand, are powered/active speakers.

I have KEF Q750 LCR and Q150 surrounds, and they're amazing for the price. Q150 for $300 was effectively the default recommendation for anyone looking for speakers at that price. Q1 Metas at $400 are still a great value, though it's important to make sure your AVR/amp is compatible with 4 ohm speakers, since the Q1 Metas are 4 ohms, unlike the Q150s which are 8 ohms.

Revel is high quality though, and is definitely a great choice.

While I agree with you on all this, you'd then have to buy an amp if you don't have one. You're recommending passive speakers in a post for actives.

Whoa, where did you find those Revels for $300/pr? That's crazy good! Were they used?

For music, the KEF Q series won't be as neutral and nice as those Revels of course, but for movies/TV they'd be ok.

Valid point.

However, considering how cheaply one can get a quality mini-amp for these days, there is no reason to take the risk of an active speaker's built in amp dying on you after a few years leaving you with a pair of expensive doorstops, as opposed to easily changing out the mini-amp.

Didn't notice that they were actives at first. Regardless, I'd personally get some ~$150 Edifer powered bookshelf speakers, or I'd get $600 Adam Audio T7V (or $500 T5V) studio monitors. Both would be better designed for nearfield listening than traditional home theater/music passives, which is what 75+% of people are using these for. By the time you go passive + Fosi amp, you're around $350-$400+ anyways. I wouldn't want to spend that much when I could just spend $100 more to get speakers with AMT/ribbon tweeters. They will nearly eliminate any fatigue for the higher frequencies, and they just sound so nice.

At $299 these make a lot more sense, especially if you want powered speakers and don't want to deal with a separate amp.

You do realize that those aren't powered speakers these are so there's a big difference there.. so I would hope that the RP line would sound better but you also need a receiver

No you don't need a receiver, you need a $50 mini-amp, as shown 3 posts up. In exchange for a tiny bit more expense and setup hassle, you get speakers with 6.5" woofers instead of a lousy 4" which means far better dynamics and bass, as well as a far less fatiguing tweeter (RP vs R tweeters).
