I've had good luck with cafiza powder to clean my similar Breville. Just put a little powder in and let it soak then use a quick brush or sponge (single pass). Does a great job with the stains in the carafe.
The OXO Brew 9 cup stands out for making very good drip coffee and keeping it hot in the thermal carafe without a hot plate. Long term use runs from a year to about 10 years with solid reliability, and the timer is a useful extra. Cleaning is the main tradeoff, since the stainless carafe and water reservoir can be hard to scrub, stains build up, and descaling is important to keep it heating properly. It is a strong fit if you want better coffee and can stay on top of maintenance.
Daily drip coffee drinkers who want a thermal carafe, because it makes very good coffee and keeps it hot for hours without a hot-plate taste.
The machine is generally easy to clean, and descaling with citric acid, Cafiza, Dezcal, or similar solutions works well. The main hassle is the stainless carafe and reservoir, which can need soaking and extra scrubbing because the reservoir is not removable.
It can produce noticeably better-tasting coffee than cheaper machines using the same grounds. The thermal carafe also avoids hot-plate scorching, which helps preserve flavor.
It keeps coffee hot for a decent amount of time, with reports ranging from about an hour to several hours depending on expectations and conditions. It avoids hot-plate burn, but some users still need to microwave coffee later.
Yes. If it is not descaled when the reminder appears, it may stop heating water enough and can time out mid-brew with water left in the tank; long soaks with a descaler can restore it.

Denture cleaner tablets work pretty well also. Polident etc.
Picked this up at a Goodwill a year or so ago for $6 and it's been flawless. I cleaned the carafe with Cafiza and did a descale with Dezcal. The water reservoir gets cloudy since we have hard water, but a vinegar soak takes care of that. It works great and brews a nice cup of coffee when I'm in the mood for drip.
I don't spend a lot of time looking at the interior of my 13 year-old carafe that has never been in a dishwasher (edit: not this one), but I soak it in boiling water + washing soda a few times a year while the machine is soaking with citric acid, and it comes out pretty shiny after a little wipe with a holy sock on a wooden spoon.
For anybody else who wanted to simply see this in the post instead of clicking on the link or trying to recall which cup size is en vogue: 9 cups = 45 oz.
^ This is the way. This would never go in a dishwasher for sure.
Agree with the others that this is a great machine and produces excellent coffee. The timer feature is key. I've been using mine for about 10 years with no issues. I only descale using a descaling solution from Amazon whenever the reminder flashing happens.
My one critique is the carafe. It doesn't pour cleanly, so it always splashes and drips. It also doesn't keep coffee at a hot temperature for more than about an hour. I end up having to microwave it after that, which beats having a hot plate burn it, but I wish it stayed hot longer.
Sick of looking at my 14 cup Cuisinart. CR rated 70. Thermo carafes are supposedly better than hot plates. Is it a bastard to clean?
I have this. It makes great coffee and the carafe keeps coffee hot for hours.
The only part that is hard to clean is the water resevoir because you really cant scrub it. You can easily let citric acid (coffee descaler) in it for a few hour every few months and problem is solved.

It is a bitch to clean the inside of the steel carafe. You have to soak it in solution, or you'll be wasting your time with soap. Get a scrub brush, long handle, and mix 1/2 cup of hydrogen peroxide with 2 tablespoons of baking soda. Let it sit for a few hours. Then scrub it.
I use cafiza or dezcal (can't remember which) and just fill it up and let it sit for a few hours every few months. All coffee residue is gone after this. No scrubbing needed.
I agree this is a nice coffee maker, but make sure to descale when it recommends. After awhile of not descaling it won't heat up the water enough and eventually time out on a brew cycle (there will still be water leftover in the clear plastic side). I had to use Dezcal and long soaks to eventually get it working again.

I've had this coffee maker for around 2 years and agree with the other comments. It makes a good cup of coffee, but cleaning the water tank/reservoir is a pain, since it's not removable.
