The Legion Tab Gen 5 is an 8.8 inch Android gaming tablet that stands out for handheld emulation and PC game streaming or translation, with support for systems up to PS2 and many Steam, Epic, and GOG titles. The hardware also gets praise for two USB C ports, a microSD card reader, and the ability to sideload apps after a 24 hour wait. The main knocks are the high price, no fingerprint sensor, no cellular connectivity, and face unlock that only works for basic tablet unlocking. Chinese ROM versions can be switched to English and Google services, but they may receive updates more often than the US version.

  • The Legion Tab Gen 5 can emulate up to PS2 and run many PC games via Steam, Epic, and GoG.

  • EXTRAFIVE pricing brings the deal down to $665, making the upgraded internals more tolerable.

  • The tablet supports app installation beyond the Play Store with a 24-hour waiting period.

  • The device includes dual USB-C ports and a microSD card reader for expandable entertainment storage.

  • The tablet lacks a fingerprint sensor, forcing frequent password or pattern entry for unlocking.

  • The tablet does not include cellular connectivity, which can reduce real-world usability versus alternatives.

  • The $700 price is criticized as too high for an 8-inch Lenovo tablet.

  • Facial recognition appears limited to unlocking the tablet and may not support biometric app logins.

I absolutely don't dispute it and I would pick an Android device over Apple one every day. But I am not a tablet power user - my use case is lot of reading, watching educational videos and classes, occasionally buying some stuff. Easy unlocking and connectivity are very important factors - much more important than ability to run newest games (who does serious gaming on tablets anyway?!)
Gaming on Android tablets is becoming more popular due to emulators for everything up to PS2. They also handle DS well in a portrait orientation.
The big change occurred when Valve invested in x86 translation layers for ARM. People are buying these tablets for PC "emulation". You can install and run many Steam, GoG, and Epic PC games.
