Subscription required for full functionality
FWIW, I've been using Blink cameras for around 6 years with no subscription and never felt like I needed it. Long-views of wired cameras would be nice, but a rare use-case for me.

Can you flash aftermarket firmware on these? I'm rolling up a frigate server and am paying attention to security cams.

That's because you're on a grandfathered plan and the original sync module. New installed modules will require a subscription plan.
Btw, every time they do an update, which is about 3-4 months, you will probably have to hard reset your device because it crashes while the update happens, which bricks the unit. Don't install this high up like I did.

Gotcha on the grandfathering. That's interesting about the updating... I've had mine installed up high for 7 months and never once had it go out or stop working. Could you have a bad unit, by chance?

Got two before on Woot with the module on eBay. Functionality with no subscription is enough; it detects people and cats. It's well worth it, rather than buying a regular floodlight at Home Depot.

Mine same Got two before on Woot with the module on eBay. Functionality with no subscription is enough; it detects people and cats. It's well worth it, rather than buying a regular floodlight at Home Depot. It's been a year now.

Why ask complex question like this man? No, you cannot install custom firmware on these.

You should be able too, also grandfathered but I added a few outdoor 4 cameras from woot that gave me 30days of free ai plan then about 2 weeks later (today) installed this. It doesn't stack your 30 day plan just resets it. I can't imagine I lose the grandfather cloud.

On/off is set to dawn/dusk or by motion, you can adjust those settings. You can also turn it on/off in the app. I replaced a motion sensing floodlight and 3d printed a little piece to hold the light switch up/on becasue you want it on all the time.

My only concern is I'm not sure if it works without Wi-Fi.

nope, it's why this is labeled "wired" camera: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B5VGZ...20required.

Power: Hardwired. Neutral wire required.
100-240VAC, 50/60Hz, 45W
it comes with wire nuts, you need to turn off your breaker, disconnect your current light and connect the wires, etc.

According to an AI conversation, the newer 2K+ devices like this floodlight and the Wired Doorbell 2K+ devices do not support cloud recording without a paid subscription.

I've changed the module on a grandfathered plan three times with no issue: Sync 1-->Sync 2-->Sync XR. However, it looks like the newer 2K+ devices like this floodlight and the Wired Doorbell 2K+ devices do not support cloud recording without a paid subscription.
