Is X-sense legit? Do they make good product?

There wi-fi smart models (with app notifications) were recalled by Amazon about five months back. They didn't have the most current UL listing. (maybe not listing at all, I don't recall) I received credit after sending in a photo of the x-sense unit with "do not use" written on it with permanent marker.

I'm only finding non smart units on Amazon currently with the UL certification prominently displayed in the listing. I had two more of the x-sense wi-fi units that I bought directly from xsense ready to install when I received the Amazon notification. I reached out to x-sense customers service if their unit was safe to use, and or were they working on getting the UL certification for that model.... nothing but crickets was their response.

Yep, Kidde smart models cost more but with a partnership with Ring you know they are UL-217 / Gen. 10 certified, FCC qualified and even Nanny State California Fire Marshall approved.

Wirecutter, a respected review website, rated the Kidde smart smoke / CO detector as best overall . They wouldn't test the x-sense unit due to no UL listing, no co detection and no Alexa, Apple, Google Home integration.

Too bad it's the ring version instead of the Kidde app version. One neat thing is you only need one smart one to get alarm notifications if the other dumb Kidde detectors are interconnected.

I just got email from Kidde. As of 2025 they have transitioned to Intertek as their 3rd party tester and have the ETL label. Looks like most of these companies doing that including first alert.
