And people are downvoting you for pointing it out! Books are probably $20 on average and I agree with you, i don't listen twice and don't need to keep them. Just listen to 3 books for free and cancel, stop whining!
Thanks for bringing some sanity back into this thread. I'm fine with being the odd man out but it's good to know I'm not the only one.

Note that this is the STANDARD membership level, and not the "Premium Plus."

The difference is that "Premium Plus" gives you 1 credit a month to use on any audiobook and you will 'keep' it unlock in your library, even if you cancel the membership later. "Standard" lets you 'select' one audiobook per month, and you can ONLY listen to it IF you maintain a membership. If you don't have a membership, then you can't listen to any books you got under "Standard."

I usually get the (what is now) Premium Plus level, but Audible changed their membership levels/options some time ago and I didn't look carefully and signed up for the Standard tier. Fooled me once, Audible...
I get this offer quite often thru out the year so to me this is no Slick Deal.

I'm a recent current member, so no 3 months free. I've canceled and rejoined off and on once the plans were no longer worth the regular monthly cost for limited points and library ownership. Libby and the other library audio book formats are awesome if your desired books are there. Audible is now for fast convenience. I used it this month because I wanted a book club book that has a deadline for reading. But I likely will cancel again since I have a massive library of "Audible book regret purchases" just to make the monthly quota, which is a profitable Amazon subscription business model. Audible counts on subscribers forgetting they are subscribed. Thanks OP, now off to complete my monthly purchase points quota and cancel and maybe rejoin. 🤓😂😈🙃

FYI if you have a library card you can check out all the audiobooks you want from your local library using the Libby app.
My favorite browser extension that has saved me enormous $$$, is library extension that will automatically search your selected libraries (including Hoopla, if desired):

$10 a month for a temporary listen? You can stream popular audiobooks for free from your library.

Fake. I am a Prime member and was only offered one free month. I haven't had Audible in at least a year.

OP needs to put "YMMV", "some Prime members", or "eligible Prime members".

It says at the sign up page "Any audiobooks you've purchased with cash or credits are yours to keep even after you cancel your membership.".

Can you show a source where this has changed?

Op should explain that the standard subscription doesn't let you keep the monthly audiobook once paid membership ends. This recent new tier can be confusing, I'm sure people will see this and think it's like the free trials where you got a credit a month and you could keep what you bought with that.

I signed up for this not knowing you can only access the book for a month. I do need motivation to read errr listen to books more so perhaps there's a silver lining to this.

I agree with earlier comments to check Libby availability first. For my library, they only offer the Spanish audiobook of Project Hail Mary for some reason so I used my credit on that.

Wait, so you have access to listen to 1 single book per month?!? That's ridiculous.
No. Any audiobooks you've purchased with cash or credits are yours to keep even after you cancel your membership.

There are other books you can only listen to as a member but the ones you buy with a credit are yours to keep and listen to forever.

Mods need to get on this thread and delete all the wrong info replies.

Source? Sure: https://help.audible.com/s/articl...n_US#Three

What is a monthly audiobook selection or monthly title?
Monthly audiobook selections are any title you select as part of your Audible Standard membership benefit. With Audible Standard membership, you can select 1 audiobook a month and grow your Library collection over time.

Monthly audiobook selections are available in your Library until you cancel. Once you cancel, you will no longer have access to titles you selected with this membership.

=====

Hope that helps. I clarified in my original post the differences between the "Standard" plan, which is what this offer is, and the "Premium Plus" plan, which is what many of us long-term Audible deal seekers are used to. Please take time to read and understand before throwing false accusations of "wrong info."

If you get standard, drop it, and then renew it later, do you get your books back?
You get 'accese' back to the books that you selected, yes. But if your membership lapses, the books are locked again.

Standard is $8.99 monthly Premium Plus is $7.95 monthly Why??
Regular price for Standard is $8.99/mo and Premium Plus is $14.95/mo.

You might have a special offer/pricing, mate. For example, Audible is offering me 3 months of Premium Plus for $6.99/mo right now. I haven't signed up yet due to my backlog, while hoping for the $1/mo for 3 months for Premium Plus comes back one day.

You know the people upvoting this 'deal' are the same people who call the store.
