I recall seeing people recommend skipping the first game and just going to the second due to improvements made.
There are a couple improvements but I personally wouldn't say enough change to just skip the first for it. Not that skipping the first will ruin anything either, but might as well test it out with the cheaper, maybe free on some platforms previously, to see if it's your style.
For me, this stupid game has been one of my favorites in many years.
When I first heard about it I thought it was a joke and dumb. Then it was "free" on PlayStation + and I still rolled my eyes but downloaded it to prank my kids. Then I tried it and couldn't stop and have now put well over 100 hours into it (and the sequel) 🤣. I still think it's a ridiculous thing to have a game for, but it so deftly scratches that mild OCD itch I seem to have that it's become my zen garden. I'll "play" for hours while watching TV/movies and it's so relaxing and fulfilling in a way not many games have been for me and I'm still surprised by that fact. I paid full price for the sequel, which is pretty much just more of the same, and still often fall back on them for my mindless fix often.
