Sorry not sorry, but there is zero chance that, as a non-professional, I will ever have a scan stool that requires a subscription. All of my scan tools are as capable, or more, and don't require a subscription.

If you have older vehicles, most likely not. If you are going to purchase newer vehicles, then yes you would want to have it updated.

It doesn't require a subscription, the reason one might pay for the subscription which is really just updates. You buy your scanner in 2020, then buy a 2022 vehicle, there will be functions that won't work because it does not have that specific vehicle in the scanner so it won't work except for basic obd2 functions. Do you either buy a new device OR pay for the update/subscription, so now again whats that about never?
