This AOOSTAR mini PC stands out as a compact homelab and light AI box with a Ryzen 7 Pro 6850H, 24GB of onboard LPDDR5, and OCuLink for external GPU use. The included memory alone is a big part of the value, and the machine has been used successfully for Kubernetes, Proxmox, OPNsense, and eGPU setups. The soldered RAM cannot be upgraded, the integrated Radeon 680M is dated for gaming or heavier AI work, and brand support has a poor reputation. It looks best suited to small, practical builds rather than long term storage or high maintenance workloads.

  • Mini PC tinkerers adding an external GPU for inference, because OCuLink works well once the model is loaded and avoids a full desktop case and PSU.

  • Home-lab builders running Kubernetes or Proxmox, because the mini PC has enough threads and 24GB of RAM to stay solid under light server workloads.

  • Small-model AI hobbyists, because 24GB of RAM and the 680M iGPU can handle acceptable local inference even though performance is slow.

  • Portable-device buyers who care about bandwidth per watt, because LPDDR5 can offer strong throughput in a compact, low-power system.

  • NAS builders wanting simple, long-term storage, because turning this mini PC into a disk server needs extra cabling, mounting, cooling, and power for the HBA.

  • Gamers expecting desktop-class external GPU performance, because OCuLink bandwidth is lower than a modern x16 slot and can reduce frame rates.

  • People who need upgradeable memory, because the RAM is soldered and cannot be expanded later.

  • Buyers who depend on long-term vendor support, because the brand can be slow to respond and the hardware can become unstable within a year.

Good as mac mini m4 replacement and running openclaw?
No, they're a bit funky in terms of support. I have a Beelink and the OS was ruined with the last update from AMD because "the chipset drivers offered directly on the AMD website and through the AMD Adrenalin software are designed specifically for standard desktop motherboards (such as AM4 and AM5 socket motherboards). However, your Beelink SER8 features a Ryzen 8745HS, which is a mobile processor built primarily for notebooks, all-in-one PCs, and mini-PCs." https://www.reddit.com/r/BeelinkO...violation/

Long Story short, they're great for non-critical use and with constant backups, Mac Mini is much more stable and supported. I have both and that's how I work with them.

No go. Integrated GPU
Lol GPU is always going to be integrated at this form factor, unless you plug in an eGPU

lol, do I need a OPNSense router with a Ryzen 7 Pro? The dual 2.5gig ports are calling to me.

I have the BOSGAME 6800H, 24GB, Dual 2.5GbE Lan.

OPNsense did okay on it It was mostly overkill. I played around with it for a while. Also played around with RouterOS on it. But, did not want an extra point of failure.

I converted it to Proxmox and it's a handy little box. Plenty of threads for processes and plenty of DRAM. I have a couple 1TB SSDs in it.

Most openclaw people are accessing models in the cloud. Arguably they don't need a separate PC then though. But a lot of people don't know how to set up a VM locally or in the cloud.

I guess there's no risk from these no name imports since no SSD, right? Or do I have to worry about what might be hidden on the BIOS too?

Nice. 24GB SODIMM DDR5 is $250 alone, so good value just for the RAM alone. Just know it's LPDDR5 so it's slower than DDR5, and has a CPU a few generations old
For bandwidth per watt and smaller portable devices, LPDDR5 is often the better choice and can even provide more bandwidth than standard DDR5. Which this device falls under, sure regular DDR5 tends to be a little faster, it's also usually meant for workstations and desktops.
