I really wanted to argue that this was incorrectly labeled did NOT have OCulink. The port on the back of the device is Displayport, and the product's video mis-labels it as OCuLink. It is common for these cheap mini PC's to have inaccurate listings.o

However, I found a video review [youtube.com] that connects the dots. The OCuLink port is behind a label on the right side of the device. So if you were keeping an eye out for mini PCs with an OCuLink port and were concerned like me, I hope this helps clarify things.

They're intel as well. I have 3 of these in a k8s cluster. Solid machines.

Where do you get your misinformation from. Lpddr is not slower, it's faster than ddr5. There is a range for both. But you are misinformed about their speed.

This AOOSTAR mini PC stands out as a compact homelab and light AI box with a Ryzen 7 Pro 6850H, 24GB of onboard LPDDR5, and OCuLink for external GPU use. The included memory alone is a big part of the value, and the machine has been used successfully for Kubernetes, Proxmox, OPNsense, and eGPU setups. The soldered RAM cannot be upgraded, the integrated Radeon 680M is dated for gaming or heavier AI work, and brand support has a poor reputation. It looks best suited to small, practical builds rather than long term storage or high maintenance workloads.

  • The deal can be attractive because it includes 24GB of onboard RAM for the price.

    tonightstarcaptor

  • The OCuLink port can enable external GPU setups without needing a full desktop case and PSU.

    starcaptorzyberwoof

  • The onboard LPDDR5 can suit small portable builds by targeting bandwidth-per-watt efficiency.

    kalirob99

  • The mini PC can work for home-lab networking and virtualization tasks like OPNsense and Proxmox.

    luckygecko

  • Coupon codes may fail due to being used up or blocked by security checks on AliExpress.

    GenericAnomalyregata

  • The soldered LPDDR5 RAM cannot be upgraded after purchase.

    KLondike5-1212

  • The back port may be DisplayPort while OCuLink is located behind a label, which can confuse buyers.

    zyberwoof

  • Brand support can be unreliable, with unresponsive or intermittently responding service and instability on other AOOSTAR hardware.

lol, do I need a OPNSense router with a Ryzen 7 Pro? The dual 2.5gig ports are calling to me.
YES!! I did proxmox with opnsense on a beelink eq14 and it is fabulous! Finally got good DNS ad blocking, VLAN for IoT and of course good monitoring tools.

Why would anyone who knows better choose Intel over AMD?
AMD over Intel, but frequently Intel UHD over RDNA for a home lab.

Intel's Quicksync is ideal for video transcoding. Also, a lot of Intel iGPUs support being split into vGPUs for pass-thru to VMs.

AMD's more powerful RDNA is often not utilized for more than terminal/console output. To add insult to injury, AMD's "G" desktop CPUs are handicapped with lower PCIe speeds. On plus side, most of AMD's non-"G" AM5 CPUs include a weak iGPU. This is plenty for a hypervisor and allows for PCIe 5.0.

Got a link? Right now it looks like a new Mac Mini with 16/512 GiB on Amazon is $770. On Apple.com it is $800, and the delivery estimate is about 3 to 4 weeks from now.

This is missing storage, but the base Mac Mini only has 16 GiB of RAM, so we can sort of call that a wash. Unless you've got a link to anything much better, you're comparing a $800 device to a $300 one.
