"style' is the key here. I used to be a military air traffic controller and would wear MIL-S-25948 spec sunglasses. (HGU-4/P)

They are not polarized because there is a chance of them hiding part of tower/cockpit displays.

Likewise, they are neutral gray (neutral density) because of the need for them to be non-color shifting.



Nonetheless, the specification has now been canceled for about six years. (and people want a small fortune for the Randolph ones)
