Had one of these....Hated it. They charge per month and the service is so slow that the person is gone by the time the video loads. I got a Tapo doorbell instead. Cheaper, no monthly fee, better quality app.

I had the 1st gen and swore never to get one again. They lied when they said there was no internal battery. There is one and it died after a few years, Not serviceable nor replaceable unless you tear the whole thing apart (glued joints). Planned obsolescence. Battery dies, throw way. 2nd gen also has the same internal battery (NiMH - like the old wireless telephones.). Expect ~ 3 years of life,

the third gen is currently on sale for $139.99 at most retailers (Amazon, bb, google).

Their free service is super slow and the person will be gone by the time it loads. Stay away from it

Still have the 1st gen on my rental property. Been like 6 years haha. I have a eufy on my house, there are some things that the nest does better than the eufy. Like false positive on the ppl notification. Sometimes I get like 100+ person notification on the eufy and it's the pic of my car tire or the plant in front.

I wouldn't recommend Nest. I recently uninstalled 6 nest devices, including doorbell, cameras, thermostat. My biggest gripe was unreliable software that undermined the hardware. for example, voice intercom on the doorbell crashes the app 85% of the time. the app runs hot and hardly works. Cameras take 15-30seconds to activate and view clips. The cameras are low quality compared to competitors doing regular hardware updates. Doorbell has an embedded battery that dies over time. Thermostat used creative circuitry that burned itself out. In general, they trade off reliability for features, which means you will have to replace hardware in less than 3 years. That's just not practical for a home installation. do you want to be doing constant work on your house?

my doorbell internal battery also flaked out like this. thermostat also used creative circuitry that burned out after < 3 years. I can't believe these products with deliberately short lifespan. Do they expect homeowners to just continuously replace devices ? i've got a life.

Going on over 8 years on my original Google Nest Hello doorbell with zero problems. Used without subscription for many years without issues but have the subscription now because it is included with Google AI Premium. Don't notice any difference in performance (just longer video saves). Bought a 3rd gen for my new house and it has worked great so far

Yea my original nest cam has been working great still. I was going to upgrade to 2nd Gen as this allows for video saves a bit more than original I believe. I'll have to check out the third gen as I didn't even know they released that until I read this thread.
