Klipsch's RP-1600 is a large, high-output subwoofer aimed at home theater impact, with comments calling its bass effortless, wall-shaking, and especially strong for movies. The 16 inch driver and big cabinet are repeatedly framed as the main draw, and the sub is praised for delivering serious performance at a lower price than some competing options. The main cautions are price, since past sales around $1,000 are still the benchmark, and size, since proper placement can be tricky. Shipping damage and an amp failure after two months also raise durability concerns.
Movie fans wanting theater-level bass at home, because it delivers huge output that can make a room feel like a live event.
Bass enthusiasts chasing maximum slam, because the sub is described as loud enough to shake walls and outperform smaller sealed options on sheer impact.
Listeners who want a sub that can fill a large open living area, because it plays effortlessly and still feels right in a room opening into the kitchen.
Buyers who want automatic room correction to handle setup for them, because the controls are mostly set-and-forget and proper calibration still matters.
The refurb RP-1600 has been listed around $1,119, but it comes with a 90-day warranty and returns can require you to pay shipping. Ground shipping can be free at checkout, yet the refurb price is close enough to new-deal pricing that many would rather buy new.
A return to the $1,000 price is possible but not something to count on soon. The sub was $1,000 multiple times last year, but recent comments note the older $900 sales are unlikely and that RP subs have been backordered with fewer exclusive sales lately.
The RP-1600 is the bigger, ported theater-style option, while the SB3000 Revolution is a sealed sub with Bluetooth control and auto EQ. For movie watching and maximum output, the Klipsch is favored for sheer driver size and impact; for a smaller footprint and more tuning features, the SVS is the alternative.
There are reports of damaged boxes on arrival and at least one amp failure after about two months, with a long wait for a replacement amp. It is worth inspecting the carton on delivery and being prepared for possible warranty follow-up.
Yes. Owners describe the sub as effortlessly powerful, with two 16-inch units said to "crack your walls," and one user said a single unit was enough for a living room that opens into a kitchen.
As tempting as this sounds, it's a bad deal. The most recent sale was $1000 in November 2025. Using the BLS' CPI Inflation Calculator, that converts to $1027.45 today, which means this sale price is $172.55 higher than it should be, adjusting for inflation. That said, I'll be adding it to my Deal Alerts. H/T to OP.
Great customer service, they took care of me on the $100 price drop. As far as the sub goes, it plays effortlessly, and does what I wanted. My living room opens into my kitchen, I'm glad I didn't get the 14".
I was an SVS guy since way back when they first started. They used to be the value king who Sub killers who took on the big boys like Velodyne back in their day. Not anymore, so many new players in the Subwoofer game coming out with some super high performing Subs at amazing prices, example tonewinner, RSL speed woofer, Stark, Power Sound Audio. I recently picked up a massive 21" PSA Tv21neo-m subwoofer with a 1920 RMS, this slams, tight and goes deep, great with music and movies. I know this PSA sub is too big for most, but i made it work. My point, is go with the biggest size Subwoofer you can fit, nothing beats size and power, save your money some really good deals with these new players! SVS has great costumer service, they have good stuff but too expensive these days for what you get. The bigger the better is so true in subwoofers.
Yep, "back in the day when they first started" was in the '00s. They killed Velodyne almost single-handedly, lol. Today, SVS is middle of the pack when it comes to price-to-performance, a.k.a. bang-for-the-buck. They are still way better than stupidly-overpriced-and-underperforming speaker-company subs of course, but compared to consumer-direct subwoofer specialist companies like RSL, PSA, Hsu, etc. they are just so-so. A sure testament to this is that if you peruse subwoofer enthusiast forums, you see people who own SVS subs going to PSA or JTR and raving about the improvement, but you NEVER see owners of PSA or JTR going in the opposite direction, lol.
The Klipsch RP series is about the only speaker-company subs that can compete in the same league...the question is whether they will have the same high rate of premature amp failures as previous Klipsch subs or not. So far, they seem to have improved on that but the RP subs are still fairly new and we won't really know for at least another 2-3 years.
There are now heavily discounted RP series subwoofers available at https://www.klipsch.com/refurbished with the RP-1600 at 1119
Picked up 2 RP-1400s at $879. Not as good as slickdeals $700 deal last year, but I'm impatient.

Sadly, the RP-1400s at $879 are sold out.
And why would anyone buy a refurb RP-1600 there for the same price as a brand new one from the Adorama deal above?
There are some other decent deals there, though (e.g. RP-600Mii for $400/pr)
And I suspect that there's a good chance a lot of this is probably in fact brand new stock that the manufacturer wants to clear out while not stopping those willing to pay full price, from paying full price. Very common industry practice.

true, it is a bit of a risk. 90 day warranty only. purchaser responsible for shipping cost.
Oh actually the ground shipping is free; you have to add the item to your cart and go to checkout before they show that.
sorry, should have been more specific -> if you have to return the sub for any reason, you pay shipping. whereas adorama will give you a shipping label

Whoa, Adorama provides FREE return shipping on non-defective returns? Are you sure about that? Their website makes no indication of that...in fact, it says there's even a 15% restock fee for opened product: https://www.adorama.com/help/returnPolicy
My understanding is that they give you a shipping label but will deduct the cost of shipping from your refund, based on this:
Refund Details
Adorama will refund your original purchase price, excluding shipping fees.

the implication was for damaged/defected items of course.
I've honestly never heard of a company giving you a shipping label then charging you for it for returns. I'm sure free return shipping labels only applies to the defected / damaged product condition only. Which is what we are concerned about here.

Oh ok, I thought you were talking about a "try it before you buy it" option which really only SVS offers anymore, though it's of course built into their pricing whether you ever use it or not.
Bit the bullet and decided to buy it. Been wanting this sub for a while. I know it's been cheaper but just been wanting it so whatever. Well it's been three weeks, finally arrives and it's all damaged. Didn't even bother taking it off the truck.

I would have opened it and inspected it---often times the shipping package is beaten all to hell but the contents somehow escape unscathed. I've had this happen with a lot of different big bulky things, most recently an e-bike.

The subwoofer can deliver very high impact when using dual 16-inch units for home theater listening.
The SVS SB3000 alternative offers wireless dialing and auto EQ features, which can be a practical benchmark for setup convenience.
The Klipsch RP-1600 can play effortlessly and meet movie-focused needs in a living room that opens into a kitchen.
The Klipsch RP-1600 can be a strong option when a receiver already provides bass management for subwoofer integration.
Refurbished RP-1600 purchases carry a 90-day warranty and require the buyer to pay shipping for returns.
Shipping handling can result in a damaged subwoofer on arrival, including cases where the box is badly impacted.
The $1299.99 price can be inflated versus prior $1000 sales, making the deal less attractive for inflation-adjusted comparisons.
An amp failure can occur after about two months, and replacement support can take weeks while the sub remains unusable.
