This Wolfbox mirror dash cam stands out for front and rear recording in a single mirror-mounted unit, with useful split-screen viewing and solid night clarity for backing up and checking blind spots. The long screen and easy clip retrieval add to its appeal, and the unit has held up for years in daily use. The main tradeoffs are mirror-dashcam quirks, since adjusting the rearview mirror changes the camera angle, and installation can take patience. Backup-camera performance also depends heavily on mounting and setup.

  • Long-term use can work for years when the mirror-mounted setup is adjusted correctly for the vehicle.

  • The monitor design can cycle between front view, rear view for backing up, and split screen for both views.

  • The front and rear night clarity can work well for backing up and checking blind spots while driving.

  • The rear camera can provide a close-up backup view with a grid mode when connected to backup light wiring.

  • The backup camera performance can be iffy and may require careful mounting and alignment to match the rearview mirror position.

  • Adjusting the rearview mirror can change the dashcam point of view and can lead to missing footage if the camera points upward.

  • The mirror-mounted unit can add weight to the mirror and may increase vibration on rough roads.

  • The optional hardwire pseudo-security setup can drain the vehicle battery if the regulator power-cut feature does not work.

I bought a Wolfbox off AliExpress, it works great. I've not had to adjust my rearview so my angles are all perfect. The backup camera is perfect as long as you mount it right, this was tricky in my van but we got it done. The only thing I wish it had was an interior camera and I should have got the wider screen size.

Don't do it people. There's a fundamental design issue with mirror dashcams. When you adjust the mirror the dashcam point of view moves as well. My niece got into an accident...her dashcam had no footage whatsoever. She didn't know camera was pointed up to the ceiling when she adjusted the rearview mirror.
I'm thinking of getting this or something like it, but mounting it like you would a regular cam and keeping my good old analog mirror. I agree replacing your rear view completely is dumb but it's starting to look like that's the way they are starting to make the higher spec ones (that don't cost like $200) these days.

Is the camera in back not adjustable to where you could mount it somewhere else and then just repoint it?

They do.
From the wolfbox manual:
Place the head unit (Wolfbox Mirror) on the rear-view mirror
by hand, and be sure to separate the silicone brackets on both
sides of the rearview mirror. Buckle the device to the rearview
mirror with the rubber straps. Adjust the front lens to a desired
angle.

You do know most of these, the dashcam portion is adjustable right?

Best to just get a regular dashcam vs a mirror dashcam. If what you're after is the reverse display when you put the car on reverse, I replaced my mom's 2007 Honda Odyssey radio with an Android headunit. It has built-in wireless Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, etc. Also has a rear camera that automatically shows on the display screen when she puts her Odyssey in reverse. Plug and play install. Lots of these kits available on many make/model cars in Amazon.

Yes I do know. But my niece didn't know...or anyone new to mirror dashcams wouldn't know. Each time someone moves the rearview mirror, the dashcam POV changes...so you need to check this POV each time. You do know this, right?
