I bought an unlocked one directly from Samsung for my kid, but I haven't been able to activate it on either AT&T or Verizon. After multiple supervisor escalations, their top tier tech support told that only Apple Watches can be used on standalone plans, and that ALL Android watches are strictly limited to paired/shared plans.
Since you got it working, I would love to learn the trick or the specific steps you took to bypass this restriction. TIA
It's been a while so I don't remember how we activated the mobile plan, but you have to activate it via scanning the QR Code for the eSIM. Can't use the automated detection that the Galaxy Wear app uses for companion plans.

Which rep were you talking to? Was that someone from AT&T, Verizon, or US Mobile?
Also just to make sure, after you scanned the QR Code from the Wear app on your phone, did you go in to the watch settings and turn on the mobile plan?
