This Hisense 8000 BTU DOE smart portable air conditioner stands out as a quiet, efficient dual hose inverter unit that can cool real spaces well, from bedrooms and condos to garages and upstairs areas. The 2 year warranty adds value, and the CEER 13.5 rating and lower power draw make it look strong for a portable. The main caveats are portability tradeoffs, with bulky hoses, some noise when the compressor cycles, and a few reports of bad smells or error codes. A solid fit if you want portable cooling with better efficiency than typical single hose units.

Common Questions (5)

  • Yes, the deal is being valued partly for a 2-year warranty via Allstate on the refurbished unit. One comment also notes a Chase Sapphire Preferred card can add an extra year of coverage.

  • Some units have arrived with a loud rattle or banging sound, an Error 6 on arrival, or a strong smoker-like smell from the air output. Other units arrived looking brand new and ran overnight without rattling, so condition appears to vary by unit.

  • It can be very quiet for a portable AC because the inverter compressor runs more steadily instead of constantly cycling on and off. Reported noise ranges from extremely quiet in some units to about 50 dB from 6 feet on medium, with louder compressor-cycle issues on defective units.

  • It can cool a 900 sq ft condo to 76°F and a sunroom to 77°F, and another owner kept an upstairs room comfortable after about 15 minutes of setup. The 8,000 BTU DOE SACC rating is also roughly comparable to about 12,000-14,000 BTU under older ASHRAE ratings.

  • No, this model does not have heat. It is a dual-hose inverter portable AC, so it's aimed at cooling rather than year-round heating.

Just fyi. These kind of units are incredibly inefficient by nature. Window units are better if possible, and these (link below) are even better.

Is something like this pretty loud?

Mine is when the compressor cycles sounds like a gas grass mower outside near my building. I often look out the window for landscapers but it's my Higarbage AC. Bought new at costco. Taking it back soon.

I have two of these, they rock. 1 in a 900 sq' condo holding 76 and another is a sunroom with all windows at 77. very efficient.
This was a game changer for me. My previous dual-hose, non-inverter unit constantly cycled on and off. This one runs at the level needed and is much quieter. It does occasionally stop and restart while still powered on, but that may be due to the hose extension and slight kink from my window setup. Overall, I'm very happy with it!

You must have received a bad unit. Mine is extremely quiet for what it is. It's of course not silent, but doesn't "kick on" the compressor like my previous non-inverter unit.

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank

For $30 more, I recommend this one (I have it from a previous deal) that includes heat and Wifi:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/36495968...R5S2usvXZw

I've had it for a year, and it's a life-saver. I use it in a 3-car garage (insulated) to keep temps manageable on cold or hot days. That's honestly a bigger space than this unit is designed to handle, but if I give it a 30 minute head start, it does very well. If you're just using this in a regular room, this thing will work fast and well!

For a $230 solution that makes your space comfortable, it's a deal!

This unit has a ceer rating of 13.5 per hisense website which is impressive for a portable unit. The new*inverter* portable or window units are usually quite good with efficiency. Noon inverter systems are usually quite bad with electricity usage and with electricity prices going up across the nation, get inverter if you can. Btw, ceer and seer are not true comparables.
The main efficiency difference is in single hose vs dual hose. But also, most if not all dual hose are inverter units. Dual hose = twice the efficiency at least!

No. Single hose units are "incredibly inefficient." These dual hose inverter units are typically very comparable to the newer inverter window units. Maybe 10% less efficient.

This one looks to be significantly less efficient with a CEER of 7.2 of yours vs the posted deal with a CEER of 13.5.

This seems significant as far as electricity goes, does anyone more knowledgable have thoughts?

My window won't allow these so I was thinking of drilling through my siding and use dryer vent type of opening with a mesh outside to avoid critters from getting in.

Does anyone know the dimensions and hose length of this unit? They are listed for the 10,000 BTU unit and may be the same. I sleep in my minivan 2 nights a week at a campground with electric hookups and was thinking on getting one of these.

I have an LG portable AC rated for ~300 sq-ft and it works amazing in my 12Ft x 14Ft bedroom. I'd get home from work and the thermometer in my bedroom registers 88F ! Turn on the LG and literally within ~12 minutes, temperature drops to a very comfy 74F !
My biggest mistake was listening to all the Youtuber's and not getting one sooner - there are videos everywhere saying these portable air conditioners don't work and that you either need the in-wall units, window units, central air, etc. As a renter, I obviously can't just put one on my window since it's against code (e.g. drop on someone's head) or cut a hole in my wall to add another one. The in-wall AC in the living room essentially only gets cold enough to cool the living room, dining room, and kitchen; so for ~3 years, my bedroom was always like a sauna when it's >80F outside. My speculation is these Youtuber's aren't installing it correctly and the hot air is not being pushed outside.
Portable AC's got a bad reputation because they used to get rated under ideal, steady-state laboratory conditions (ASHRAE). Thing is, with the exhaust tube it never operates that well, and everyone was purchasing underpowered units. The newer (DOE SACC) standard takes this into account, and is much closer to matching what a window unit would provide. For example, an 8,000 BTU DOE SACC rating is generally equal to a 12,000 to 14,000 BTU ASHRAE rating.
