Question: Travel deals often demand snap decisions, but actually taking a trip requires real planning. Do you have any tips for balancing that urgency?
Serra: If you see a great airfare deal, the urgency is real, so act on it. You do have 24 hours to cancel without any conditions, though I wouldn't recommend waiting until the last minute just in case. Book the airfare first and take your time planning everything else. I've booked great fares from deals I've posted myself and then waited to handle the hotel, car rental, airport parking, and sightseeing. Those tend to be best around Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and Travel Tuesday. If I can hold off until then, I will, but I still keep an eye out for deals in the meantime. If I can't wait for that window, I look ahead to the next major holiday for promos.

Question: What types of travel deals tend to gain the most traction on Slickdeals?
Serra: Award and points travel with bonus redemption opportunities are very popular with Slickdealers, and rightfully so, because your next trip could cost nothing out of pocket. Companion fares like Amtrak's BOGO Roomettes are also a hit, as are hotel packages with exclusive rates and added perks. And obviously price mistakes, though those are nearly nonexistent these days. In almost 10 years of posting travel deals, I've only found a handful.
