Community Reviews
Amazon Basics packing tape is a thick, sticky option that stands out for sealing boxes and holding up better than many name brands. It is described as strong, super sticky, and even better than Costco tape on both price and quality, with some calling it their go to packing tape. The main caution is fit and feel, since the roll can be too large for smaller dispensers and a bit stiffer for some uses. Tape age also matters, because old rolls can lose stickiness over time.
Common Questions (5)
It is described as thick and strong, with good stickiness for packing and sealing boxes. One caveat is that it can feel stiffer than some users want, and one report says it tears very easily and feels very thin.
It is described as better than some fancy name brands and better than most average tape, with one comparison saying it beats Costco Warehouse tape on both price and quality. Another comment says it is routinely around $10.98, so this sale price may be worth waiting on if you are price-sensitive.
Keepa-based price tracking says it has been around $16 for months, with only brief drops to about $14, making this the cheapest price since July 2025. Another comment estimates the current offer at about 2.0 cents per yard, which is lower than a prior 2.7 mil 12-pack deal.
The roll is too large for a small Scotch dispenser. It barely fits a Staples tape gun, but it does fit.
Yes. Packing tape can lose stickiness over time, and using 5-year-old tape reportedly led to boxes failing during a move. It is best used within a few years rather than hoarded long term.

Great deal, great price.
On July 15, 2025, the deal was was 12 count of 2" by 60 yards for $16.76 plus tax.
For me, that worked out to $1.47 per roll, and it was supposed to be 2.7 mil.
So that was 2.5 cents per yard.
I can't find the thickness of this, but at $10.70 for six rolls, that is $1.78 before tax for 109 yards or $2.20 per roll after tax and 2.0 cents per yard.
So my question is about the strength, as this offer does not state thickness.
I sometimes use "excessive" tape on boxes, so I guess I will buy this offer on its lower cost per yard.
