Ryobi's 18V brushless 8 inch pruning mini chainsaw stands out for fast, one handed branch cleanup, especially on small limbs, bushes, and larger fallen branches cut into manageable pieces. It is repeatedly described as much quicker and less tiring than a reciprocating saw, with less vibration and better control over where the branch falls. The 2.0 Ah battery mainly affects runtime, not cutting power, and the included battery and charger add value for those already in the Ryobi system. The main caution is maintenance, since the so called oilless design still needs manual chain oiling, and stock has been spotty in stores.
The mini chainsaw can cut through wood much quicker than a reciprocating saw for many pruning cuts.
The one-handed operation helps control small branches and improves branch-fall control during pruning.
The tool can make many cuts faster on large branches and small trees compared with a reciprocating saw.
The saw can be handy for breaking down fallen branches into manageable pieces for a fire pit.
The oilless design requires manual chain oiling to prevent rapid wear of the chain and bar.
In-store clearance availability and stock counts can be inaccurate, which can waste time searching for the $90 deal.
The included 2.0Ah battery may limit runtime, so more battery capacity could be needed for adequate performance.
The saw can take a long time and use a lot of battery when cutting larger wood diameters.
