Any thoughts on this vs the steel version that's a few bucks more? I would use the wheelbarrow for both heavy and light duty work- I just want it durable- the last plastic one (granted, it wasn't HDPE), cracked and broke.

Although the metal is thin I prefer the metal over plastic. If this wheelbarrow had flat proof tires that would be hard to turn down. If you can turn the barrow upside down the water won't get inside it and rust it. Better yet if you can paint it when it loses its coating you can get many years out of the metal version. I have one of those old 60's metal wheelbarrow from my father that was built like a tank and I put a no flat tire on it last year. If you used it to transport something with acid in it like a leaky car battery then I would go with the plastic. If you do decide to go plastic get one of those plastic welderson Amazon. Several laundry soaps use hdpe containers so the weld is cheap to do. See the video by chicanic:
