This RX 9070 XT Gaming OC ICE 16G stands out as a white, price to performance focused card that is especially appealing for light colored builds. It is praised for strong 4K gaming gains, solid UE5 performance, and good results in LLM work, with FSR 4 looking excellent in demanding games. The main drawbacks are the triple 8 pin power setup, which feels excessive, and the port layout, since it has only two DisplayPort outputs and two HDMI ports. It is a capable value pick if the connector and display setup fit your build.

Common Questions (5)

  • No. The card can run with only two of the three 8-pin connectors attached; the third is described as a backup/future-proofing connector rather than a requirement. In normal installation, the triple-connector setup is not an issue.

  • This model has 2 DisplayPort and 2 HDMI outputs. That layout is useful for some builds, but it can be awkward if you want three matching DisplayPort connections for multi-monitor setups.

  • It is a much bigger jump at 4K than at 1080p or 1440p, and one upgrade from an RTX 3080 reported a huge performance gain in UE5 games. For lighter resolutions, the improvement is smaller, so the value is strongest if you play at 4K or want a longer-lasting GPU.

  • It can handle local LLM work well, including Gemma 4 12B and quant 4-6 workloads, and one comment says it is basically on par with Nvidia for LLMs. For Adobe and After Effects, Nvidia is still preferred because AMD does not integrate as smoothly and the RTX 5070 can be much faster there.

  • The card has been called one of the weaker-cooled 9070 XT models, and AMD cards in general can run a little hot. Even so, some owners report stable everyday use and no major problems after installation.

What kind of AI can one do on middle of the pack cards like this one or lets say a 5070ti?
Gemma 4 12B and Qwen 2.5 14B are some of the better options right now.

Their drivers are fine. That is a holdover from when ATI owned them and AMD has been trying to shake that nonsense that fans of the competition like to spread. There is a video on YouTube that compares driver issues and AMD actually showed to have fewer driver issues than Nvidia. However, not drastically better. Just get the card you like as both companies drivers are fine.

Upgraded from a 3080 to this card and I'm very happy. Huge performance jump in UE5 games. FSR 4 on Fortza Horizon 6 looks excellent at 4K Extreme settings. Very happy at this price. Not worth it to pay $400 more for a 5070ti. My PC is over 5 years old and this upgrade might get me another 4-5 years out of it.

I ordered this card and tried to put it in an eGPU enclosure (Razer Core X Aluminum External GPU Enclosure, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CQG2K5K)

The graphics card has three 8-pin connectors but the eGPU only came with two 8-pin connctors so I could only connect two.

Will this impact performance? I haven't been able to get the graphics card to get recognized (am still troubleshooting).

Power connectors aren't optional bud.

AMD drivers has been better overall than Nvidia drivers for years now. Nvidia only has few select games this might not be true for because they paid developers for it to try and make AMD seem not as good. Few marketing stunts they got caught out on by testers VS just fixing their own problems.

Great price for this performance tier!

If you want to spend a little less
RTX 5070 for $540

If you want to spend a little more RTX 5070ti for $895
