I got this on a previous $50 deal and had the chance to test it out recently on a brisket. It's... okay. A word of warning: Do NOT turn off the handheld unit at any point during the cook. Not only will you lose any tracking being done in the app, but also it can permanently change the ambient temperature reading.

While smoking the brisket, we were seeing some probe connectivity issues inside the house (which stinks because it's the upgraded wireless version and we were probably 30' away). To see if it would help, a family member turned the unit off and one. What a mistake that was. The app completely reset the cook, custom alarms, everything, losing 2 hours of progress but also data that it uses for the estimated time to complete. To be fair, that estimate was all over the place from the start. I had hoped this would get better over time and the restart didn't help. Even still, another 4+ hours of data and the thing fluctuated between 1.5 hours and 15 hours with about 10 degrees left to go. Pretty useless.

The weirder part is that, once the unit was turned back on, the ambient temperature reading was offset by 25 degrees too high. For the first few hours, the ambient temp was spot on with the grill temp gauge. After the restart and resetting my high (250deg) and low (150deg) alarms, I was getting a high temp alarm in the app at 250deg as request, but now the grill showed 225 deg. And I never could get it to show right again. The best I could do is offset my temp alarms by adding 25 degrees, but certainly not ideal.

Thankfully, Thermomaven so far seems great to work with and is trying to fix the situation. At $50, it's a good deal if you get a working one. Just don't turn it off mid-cook. If you don't rely on the ambient temp sensor or the estimated time to cook, you'll be good.

I just paid $50 a couple of weeks ago for the P2 probes. Tempted to return them and get the G2, but I'm really not sure it's worth the trouble to get the higher ambient heat tolerance. I haven't had any issues with the Bluetooth range at all, and will use the app 99.9% of the time anyway.
Edited to say that so far, I'm super impressed with ThermoMaven!

I picked one of these up last time it was on sale and didn't expect much, used it for this first time this past weekend to smoke a pork butt and a pastrami. Absolutely freaking loved it.. Only bought it because my Meater died after a run in with a pig roast, and didn't expect much but I actually like it MORE than the meater.

Bought the P2 for the narrower probes. Having used them, I can't imagine using even wider probes on the G2 just to get the sub-1G.

Bought a different brand wireless meat thermometer; I don't think I'll ever go back to wired.

I picked up the G2 model the last time these went on sale. This is the better model then the P2, mainly because of the WiFi connectivity between the probes and the base unit. You can take the base unit anywhere in the house while the smoker is going. But I usually just use the app and leave the base unit near the grill. The app is excellent, and the Smart mode keeps my steaks from being overcooked. It's funny, I was wondering why I'd ever use more then one probe. But now I wish the four probe version was on sale so I can watch each of my steaks when I grill.

I held off the last time, but this time I'm moving forward. My wired thermometer is ready for retirement.

Per ThermoMaven, the maximum abient temp ceiling is the same on the P2 and this G2...752 degrees.

Only substantial difference between these two models is connectivity to the probes. With the P2 model you can connect to the probes with the base unit via wi-fi or your phone via bluetooth/phone app...in addition to those two types of connectivity, the G2 base can also connect with Sub-1 G that significantly extends the range between base and probes.

I have the X2 model that has wi-fi and Sub-1 G connectivity (no bluetooth/phone app)...and the extended range provided by Sub-1 G allows me to easily monitor the probes in my grill or smoker that are on the opposite side of my house from our kitchen.

Q4I24PLR still seems to work. You probably need to change the seller to the $149.99 one sold ThermoMaven-US by clicking through "Other sellers on Amazon"
