This used to be a great Italian brand, but no longer. The "Mediterranean Flavor" advertised is unfortunately just subjective and has nothing to do with the Genova tuna sold in the US. The Genova Tuna (now owned by a Thai company) that's sold in the United States is usually from Thailand or Vietnam and sometimes comes from Ecuador or Ghana (which is actually superior). To get the real sustainably caught product of consistent high quality that is raised in the Mediterranean Sea you will now need to purchase this tuna brand within Europe, where they generally won't eat sketchy seafood. If you really want to buy this brand you should buy it in a store where you can look at where the tuna is actually caught. The can is stamped "Product of ..." on the top of each can. However, if Yellowfin Tuna is type of tuna you prefer, you won't find it in the Mediterranean, because it prefers warmer waters. So the "Mediterranean Flavor" slogan does not apply to Yellowfin Tuna at all, unless you are just counting on the olive oil for the flavor (Genova does not state where their olive oil is sourced).

Genova yellowfin tuna in olive oil stands out for rich flavor and easy meal use, especially straight from the can or tossed on salad with the oil as dressing. The oil-packed version is described as tasting much better than water-packed tuna, and the brand is treated as a premium option. The main drawback is sodium, which is called very high for a product advertised as low sodium, though draining the oil can reduce it. Coupon pricing also varies by size and account, so the deal may require clipping the offer carefully.

Common Questions (4)

  • Reported checkout totals were $8.97 for the 8-pack and $12.86 for the 12-pack after coupon and Subscribe & Save. The 12-pack worked out to about $1.07 per 5-oz can, slightly cheaper than the 8-pack at about $1.12 per can.

  • The coupon has been reported to work on the 8-pack and also on the 12- and 24-pack versions. One report says it worked on the 8-pack but not the 12-pack, so eligibility may vary by account or offer instance.

  • The olive-oil version is reported to taste better than tuna packed in water, with better flavor and texture. It's also commonly used straight from the can or on salad, and the oil can double as dressing.

  • Yes. The can is reported at 500 mg sodium, which is higher than typical tuna and above the advertised low-sodium level; draining the oil can reduce the sodium a lot because much of the salt is in the oil.

Great price, but Good Lord this is incredibly salty: 500 mg...normal tuna maxes sodium at 325mg and is advertised as low sodium at 225 or so.
The salt is added to the olive oil. Drain the oil and the sodium level decreases a lot.

The coupon works on the 12 and 24 packs as well. There is a 30% coupon on other flavors
Keep in mind that the 24 pack is for 3oz cans. The 8 and 12 packs are for 5oz cans. Make sure to take this into account to compare for the best deal. I opted for the 12 pack because it was a few cents cheaper than the 8 pack. The 8 pack came out to $1.12 per can while the 12 pack is 5¢ less, at $1.07 each.

Same here, I'm so happy because it was getting a little too expensive and it's my favorite.
If you want the best value, use the coupon on the 12 pack. It's 5¢ less per can. The 8 pack is $1.12 a can while the 12 pack is $1.07.

It worked for the 8 pack which was cheaper per once. It did not work when I tried it for the 12 pack.

I lucked into the coupon, then after ordering the 8 pack I wondered if the coupon would work on the larger sizes.
