I love the ironic sales pitch for a wireless router. "Go faster. Go Reliable. Go Wired."

Fail.

The article lists all targeted devices. All of them are old N routers, which haven't had firmware updates in years. This model is safe.

All these popular name brand consumer routers are junk. Get a Flint 2 and thank me later. It out performed a $250 ASUS I had for half the price. Wireless range is insane. I get the full 1 GIG ISP speed on the 3rd floor of a house with the router in the basement using wireless. Has tons of mods. Built-in ad blocker for all network connected devices that blocks ads/trackers at the router level and you can import custom lists or pick from a huge list of extra things you want to block, can run custom firmware, has tons of advanced tweaks if you install the Luci package, has a repo package manager of with tons of functionality you can add , etc.

Just don't waste your money on TPLINK, ASUS, etc.

Flint 2 is the best budget router on the market and most have never even heard of the brand, it goes on sale for around $130 frequently, too.
And it's ran on top of open source firmware, openwrt.

No BS like sending your data to ASUS partners to use all the features they advertise, etc. Want to use QOS on ASUS? Sure just agree to let them send all your traffic to a third party company as you do it. They do this with all the features they advertise. Parental control? Sure, just agree to let us send your data to a partner. Don't want to agree? Too bad, you can't use it then. Want the keep your router autoupdated with the latest firmware? Sure, just agree to sign over all your privacy real quick. These routers are a joke nowadays.

Great advice for someone who's a bit tech savvy, but more importantly likes to tinker with the settings. If you're looking for plug and play functionality...not so much.

It's literally plug in play with a user interface just like all other consumer home routers. Every feature I talked about can be enabled/disabled from a UI interface. You login and it even helps you setup internet access like every other router.

And if you want to use the more advanced features with LUCI (which most people never will, as most people don't even know what things like recursive DNS are for and other advanced features), it also has a user interface. It's literally just OpenWRT interface. You won't come close to anything as feature packed as this router out of the box for home routers. And you can use every feature on it without compromising your privacy.

Below are screenshots of part of the standard UI and the more advanced Luci interface. Blue is the interface 99% of people will use, Grey interface is for more advanced users that have needs that most consumers will never have a need for:

And for the people downvoting my posts for trying to inform buyers in making a more educated purchase for themselves, enjoy sending all your data to 3rd party partners that your router brand gets paid for. Open source code, baby, all day, everyday.

The Flint 2 is made by GL.iNet in Hong Kong. AKA China, if that matters to anyone.
