I use one of these garden augers https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DY7WKCLR with a Ryobi 18V hammer drill. I don't know how this Craftsman differs from a drill, but I'd be a little wary of holding it too firm if it doesn't any brake when hitting a rock. Use a drill/hammer drill with the chuck in a firm setting that still gives in case you hit a rock. If you don't the drill will fly around and whack your right elbow and left hand. It happens so fast it's difficult to get out of the way. You don't want this, trust me, I thought I broke the bones in my hand. My mistake was using the drill setting, and I got whacked more times than I'd like to admit. I finally wised up and used the chuck clutch instead of drill or hammer.

I asked Alexa the question, "Is the chuck adjustable so that it doesn't break your hands if you hit a rock?"
"The CRAFTSMAN V20 Cordless Multi-Use Garden Tool Kit is a cordless auger/planter — it doesn't have a traditional adjustable chuck like a hammer drill. The bit is fixed and not torque-adjustable. Regarding kickback protection when hitting a rock: No torque-limiting clutch — there's no adjustable slip clutch to absorb sudden stops. Auxiliary side handle — can be positioned left or right, giving you a 3rd gripping surface to help manage control and reduce wrist/hand strain. Customers note it handles roots up to ~1/2 inch thick well, but struggles with medium to larger rocks. So while the side handle helps with control, if you frequently hit rocks in your yard, the lack of a clutch means you could still get some kickback. Wearing gloves and maintaining a firm two-handed grip would be advisable."

If you already have a cordless 1/2" drill, I would just buy an auger and use it rather than a separate cordless tool. They are right about one thing, wear some leather gloves to protect the top of your hand. Keep your right elbow out of the way and wear leather gloves (at least with your left hand), and you'll be golden.
