This is a micro sd express card. It's faster than a standard micro sd card.

This one is compatible with a Switch 2.

It's only faster for devices designed for MicroSD Express, like the Switch 2. For everything else, it will run at UHS-I speeds, so you won't see any benefit spending the premium for one of these in something like the original Switch, or phones with expandable storage.

Community Reviews

This Samsung microSD Express card is mainly about Switch 2 support and faster storage in devices built for the Express standard. It is backwards compatible with regular microSD slots, but in older Switches, phones, and most cameras it falls back to UHS I speeds, so the premium brings little benefit there. Benchmarks put it around 87 MB per second sequentially, with much lower random speeds, and the card has been flagged as incompatible with a modchipped Switch. At $48 for 256GB, it stands out as a name brand option in a tight market.

Only if Nintendo put 1TB of storage into that archaic handheld...

I benched this on CrystalDiskMark and it posts consistent 87~87MB/s sequential R/W and 6MB/s random R/W. That puts it on top of the pile of random SD/MicroSD cards I have. I like it because with many cards the write speed is a fraction of the read speed.

I was having an issue with SanDisk and Samsung cards on my DJI osmo. It was saying that the read and write speed are too slow, I ran some Crystal this Mark test and it was showing that it was only getting 40 mb. Which is too slow for capturing 4K 60 FPS. DJI recommends Kingston canvas and Lexar silver cards so I don't recommend those and pass on Samsung or SanDisk

Not anytime soon.
When the AI bubble starts to pop, prices will plummet. But that's at least another year out.

Is there a reason for me to get a regular sd card instead of this? Since this card is backwards compatible, that means that it shouldn't have any bottlenecks for older devices but also futureproof moving forward? What am I missing here?

Actually, it can't utilize the faster interface used by regular MicroSD cards, so it will be limited to lower peak speeds than a high end MicroSD (non-Express) card in those devices. In a device that does not support SD Express, it will top out around 80-90MB/s, while some regular MicroSD cards can go a fair bit faster.
