This bristle free grill brush is aimed at safer grill cleaning, especially for anyone trying to avoid loose metal bristles in food. The design gets credit for not shedding material, and one long term use report says it has held up well on a Big Green Egg for a year. The main drawback is cleaning power, since the spring style and chain link style head is described as less effective than a standard wire brush. There are also concerns about the sponges under the head needing to stay wet and about replacement parts not being sold separately, making it a practical but imperfect option.

  • The bristle-free design can avoid losing material during cleaning, which may reduce bristle-related food contamination concerns.

  • The brush can be used with a mist-and-hit technique to help loosen debris during repeated cleaning cycles.

  • A bristle-free brush reportedly worked for about a year on a Big Green Egg without performance issues.

  • Wood-scraper alternatives can provide a very safe way to scrape while developing a groove over time.

  • The bristle-free cleaning action can be less effective than traditional bristles, behaving like rubbing a chain-link fence.

  • The brush's scraper components can wear out, with a wire reportedly coming off and requiring replacement.

  • The brush may use sponges that must be kept wet, or the sponges can melt during use.

  • Promo codes may fail at checkout, since at least one shopper reported that neither code worked.

Those metal wire bristles eventually break and go on your grill.

Please only use wood scrapers. A Pediatrician told me about how often she sees steel shards and it shocked me. I haven't used a steel scraper since.
There are only 130-415 cases in the entire U.S. each year. How is one pediatrician seeing so many cases?

I know this pediatrician as I buy all my second hand steel scrapers from him for next to nothing.

I've moved to wood scrapers. Buy like a 10 pack of wooden spoons at walmart and I'm not even through the first one. Cut it flat at the end if you need to. Overtime it will develop a groove. It can be the bamboo set. Extremely cheap. Very safe. When you buy the 10pk it comes out cheap like $1 ea.
Thanks for the idea! I hadn't heard of this. I switched to this coil style over a decade ago because of the bristle danger, but I'll give wood try next.

The dangerous ones are the free standing bristle paint scraper type ones.
.
This type does not lose material. I spray fine mist water on mine and hit the grill and repeat.
.
Stainless steel grates are the only way.

There is a set of sponges wrapped under the chain link. Keep the sponges wet or you'll melt the sponges. Not a better mousetrap.
Tongs, oil-soaked paper towel to wipe. Spatula or wooden spoon to scrape.

I have a version of this brush with the bristles horizontal instead of vertical and I really like it. The orientation of the bristles is interesting.

Which style do you have? The ones linked look pretty different from each other.
Any of those spring style brushes do not clean nearly as well as the standard wire brush. Even in a new grill grate, its doesn't do anything.
