Polycarbonate roof, i.e. plastic. No wonder it's so cheap.

May need something like that for the new house. Not sure if it's up to the code (handle snow load) though

Good call out. I'd spend a bit more for a better roof.

To be fair, polycarbonate is a type of plastic, but is much more durable than what most call "plastic". But I'd spend a little more and at least get aluminum one like this

I bought a photo-identical product from HD 2 years ago under the brand name Veikous. It has been up through 2 winters and has seen snow and ice without issue. Wind on the other hand... the curtains are nice but the little hangers are plastic and a few have snapped under heavy winds. Probably 10 hangers x 8 curtains and I'd say 5 are snapped/gone after 2 years. Otherwise it looks great no change since new.

Edit: I took the above link from my HD online receipt and that product shows a galvanized metal roof, but that is not what I purchased, what I purchased is the polycarbonate roof panels identical to what is being offered by wayfair here.

I had this thinking that having the sun peak through would allow light in. Well it does; BUT be aware that it also allows all of the heat in. I now bought metal roof one and it is amazing as no sun goes through and it is so much cooler than previous. so be aware.... Yes, the Poly does hold up to NY snow, except that after 4 years this last snow season it finally broke. but the poly was also degrading and had to put silicon on it, which looked crappy.

This thing is as light as paper. One strong wind and the plastic pieces will break off. Your roof will end up in your neighborhood's backyard and you will pay 10x for the damages.

Just noting that the one you linked has an aluminum frame, but the description indicates the roof is galvanized steel. Still better than the polycarbonate roof, I expect.

Is this meant to be in a closed in shaded area? I don't see how this will withstand the elements.
