Lenovo's ThinkPad P16 Gen 3 is a mobile workstation built for heavy creator and engineering work, with a 24GB RTX PRO 5000, 192GB of RAM, 4TB of storage, and workstation software certification. The huge memory pool, four SODIMM slots, and Thunderbolt support make it stand out for video editing, VFX, local AI, and other on the go pro workflows. The main tradeoffs are the very high price after tax, the pen sold separately, and some spec choices that feel dated for the money, including DDR5 5600, a 120Hz 3.2K screen, and only one PCIe 5.0 NVMe slot. It reads like a niche powerhouse for specialized mobile work.

  • Power users building a heavily expandable mobile workstation, because it has four SODIMM slots and multiple NVMe bays for large memory and storage configurations.

  • Mobile VFX and Unreal Engine artists who need workstation-class power, because the GPU, huge RAM pool, and ISV-certified software support fit demanding on-site production.

  • Local AI practitioners who want offline model work, because the machine can load large models into system RAM and keep prompts private without an internet connection.

  • Traveling film editors and colorists who need to finish 4K work away from a desk, because the hardware is described as strong enough for high-end editing and grading on the move.

  • AI buyers expecting the GPU alone to handle large models, because 24GB VRAM may only suit smaller models and the system RAM does not replace VRAM.

  • Shoppers wanting top-tier gaming-style performance per dollar, because the CPU, RAM speed, and integrated graphics are criticized as weaker than cheaper alternatives.

  • Creators who need a pen included for sketching or note-taking, because the pen is sold separately.

  • Buyers who want a simple, low-risk purchase without extra coverage, because the machine is framed as the kind of expensive workstation that benefits from extended warranty protection.

Over 9000 with tax and I still have to buy the pen separately???
The pen is $1500 and has a finger print sensor and a solid state battery.

Would this be good for playing solitaire?
Solitaire on an $8000 laptop is a different experience.

You can run local AI and ask questions which you don't want others to know...
24GB VRAM is only enough for a small model.

I have never seen a laptop this is expensive before. What makes it so pricey? Some of the specs look crazy.
this is probably a laptop for professional video editors. that's what the massive ram is for. the card itself can be used for ai too but the low ram makes me think nobody would put 8 grand down for this for ai. you need at least 32gb to run local ai efficiently. the desktop version of this card with higher ram costs 13000 dollars and that IS used for local ai.
