I have a thermomaven g4 kit. It has been a bit finicky when it comes to ambient temp, but the wireless range seems good. How does Typhur compare? I thought I had heard it's under the same company as Thermomaven, bit targeted towards premium/commercial, but from what I can tell, the G4 would have longer range?

ThermoMaven G4 should be the same as the Typhur Sync GOLD Quad. Which are both better than this listing. Better connection, thinner probes, higher ambient, etc. Not to say you don't have an damaged/defective product.
I just wish I had snagged that $100 G4 sale a while back.

Too bad Typhur is not discounting their Gold duo or Gold quad versions. Was waiting for those to drop.

Just saying it is crazy that this has a temperature probe on it and bluetooth for $25 but you can get an ear wax cleaner with a camera and bluetooth for only $5...just doesn't make sense.
They seem to still work, you might need to switch to the one sold by Typhur Inc by clicking on "Other sellers on Amazon". And don't forget to tap the arrow to apply to code.

Yeah I've been eyeballing the Typhur Sync Gold due to the issues I've had, but if connection is similar (sub1Ghz or whatever), then maybe it's not great. I've seen some youtube reviews putting the Thermoworks RTX (or is it RFX) wireless probe on top, but the ambient sensor is wired to the transmitter that must stay next to the grill, so it would get wet if you are grilling in the rain if you wanted ambient temp. But may be the only way to get accurate readings.

Yeah I wanted true wireless ambient, plus I feel like the RFX is overhyped by people blindly hyping without comparison just because they spent so much money on the thing. Not saying it's bad or not the best, just that I've seen enough communities where "buy once cry once big $ item" is touted as the only *real* option but half the people can't even tell you why other than that's what they were told.
Did you try reaching out to ThermoMaven directly? Might be able to snag some replacement probes. Even if it doesn't fix the issue, you could sell the unit with fresh probes to fund your new purchase

I did get a replacement unit that I'm going to test out. The ambient temp issue was a bit odd, so I'm hoping this fixes it.
First, these work quite well. I bought two singles the last go, and they're very accurate. And unlike some (like Inkbird) that don't include ambient temp in every probe, these do. Very convenient.
But I'm also glad I got the wifi version. No bluetooth in the world is a strong, or goes as far, as these companies ever advertise. If you really want to unchain yourself from the cook (especially long ones), only go with wifi-enabled units.
In for a wifi double set.
