Arcteryx has always been pricey since it originally catered to rock climbers and outdoor adventurers who valued lightness and warmth in a single well tailored piece. I picked up a Thorium AR about 11 or 12 years ago on sale for about $190 - that jacket is on sale for $300 now most of the time, and the Atom LT that used to run about $120 or so back then now goes for $200 "on sale". The brand premium makes no sense since there are much better alternatives at lower price points. Their Beta SV rain jackets are pretty nice, but nowhere near worth the $500 they want for them.

When this brand was one of the few companies making lightweight jackets using GoreTex Pro, the premium made sense. But let's be real, most people for the past several years have been seeking a status symbol instead of apparel that meets a technical need. The only thing more boring than mindless consumerism is when broke idiots try to signal a certain financial standing that they don't actually enjoy.

Even the status symbol is now gone since it was bought by a chinese company.

Something tells me the late-adopters aren't aware.

Arcteryx rarely go on sale, so it's a good time to snatch one if you can find your size

What's wrong with Chinese ownership, beyond simple racism?
