Blink Outdoor 4 is a wireless camera system best suited for basic home monitoring, especially when paired with Alexa and motion zones to reduce nuisance alerts and stretch battery life. The cameras can run for months on AA lithium batteries, and the system supports arming and disarming on a schedule. Full clip storage and longer video features require a subscription, and the Core sync module cannot store clips locally. Reliability and app performance are uneven, with reports of weak Wi Fi, clip loading bugs, and some units draining batteries much faster than others.

Common Questions (5)

  • Yes. Full clip storage and longer video support require a subscription, while basic live viewing, alerts, and arm/disarm use can work without one. The Core sync module in this bundle cannot store clips locally, so subscription-free recording is not available with this setup.

  • Battery life can be very long when motion zones are tuned and the cameras are not left on maximum alert all day. Reported use ranges from more than 6 months in normal away-from-home use to much faster drain if you run 24/7 high-coverage alerts.

  • Basic use can work without a subscription, but the app and cloud features are important for recordings and notifications. The cameras also depend on good sync-module placement and Wi‑Fi, and some users report app bugs, clip-loading delays, and unreliable performance.

  • It is reported to hold up through rain, snow, ice, sleet, freezing cold, and hot humid summers without failures. That said, some users also report repeated camera failures or unstable performance on newer Outdoor 4 units.

  • Not with the included Core sync module. Local clip storage requires the XR sync module with a microSD slot or a Sync Module 2 with a USB drive; the Core module cannot store clips, so it keeps you on the subscription path for recordings.

The 6 camera with XR sync module is a better buy IMHO. For 42 more you get one more outdoor camera and the XR hub which has a microsd port the core doesn't have. This allows for local storage of clips so the cameras can be used without a subscription. You have to maintain a subscription with the core sync module as it cannot store clips.

All over the place in terms of quality. Bought the two pack version. One is working great, while the other eats batteries every two weeks even though the settings are the same and the quantity of motion is equal.

Do these still give 2 hours free cloud storage with no subscription with pre April 2019 grandfathered accounts?

Other then the terrible app that works sometimes. Blink has been my go to since it debuted.
I am currently using the 2nd gen blink cam so this deal is nice. I can upgrade to the latest one.
Most common user error surround on where you place the sync module as the camera may be either to far or blocked by layers of wall which will drop the signal.
Overall the camera is fairly good. Im using a grandfathered account so I pay nothing for cloud usage.

Subscription required for full functionality
What, the AI feature??? It's cool, but not worth the $20 a month they want to describe vehicles and individuals near my home. I've used Blink for years. 10 cameras w/ no charge

People still buying blink cams, so many better options. Tried 3 different models over a few years and they all had numerous issues. Moved on to another brand and been a much more reliable experience. You couldn't pay me to use this junk.

I believe you only need a subscription, if you want to store the videos. I have had blink cameras for several years now, with no subscription, as I am only interested with who comes to my door, to arm my home at night, or to check on my property when we are away. Batteries last a long time. Connection to Alexa is great to arm and disarm home, by voice.

They could not pay me to use blink never again
I still have 4 of these blink garbage cameras with the sub upgrade.. any camera that has a cool down period on a paid account is a throw away. Completely useless.

IMO, you're better off paying a bit more and going eufy with no paid subscription. Over time the cost will balance out with the monthly fee.

Well, that's a nice opening... Could you expand on those thoughts some more - especially to those who have never used Blink cameras and thought this was a good deal for coverage? I've thought of going with Blink in the past...so your experience and frustrations would be helpful to many...

I could say the same thing about Arlo - after they changed their model and required everyone to go to a paid subscription plan to get clips of the recorded events.
I have the old Arlo Pro system, the base system can record to a USB flash drive.

These cameras are junk. Literally constantly going up ladders to deal with them bombing themselves out. The old version is way more stable.
