And an interesting way they transitioned from Russian to English.

Book is vastly superior to the movie.

A cracking good yarn that had a very formative role in my youth and life.

Tom Clancy, especially early on, had such well researched and authentic military details that he was investigated by the government.

Agreed. The movie is entertaining but besides the changes made, most of which were not good, there at least 50 pages left of the book after the movie ends.

🫡 So much better than Amazon's reimagined Jack Ryan slop.

I actually hated the movie on first watch because it had departed so much from the book, which is still my favorite novel. I get that it's an adaptation, if it stays true to the spirit of the novel that should be sufficient. But it wasn't for me. The novel spans two weeks across American & Soviet viewpoints against an epic standoff in the North Atlantic. The movie crunches it down to two days. It's still a great submarine movie.
Formative for me too. I own more of Clancy's stuff on hardback than any other author (James S.A. Corey is 2nd) Still hoping someone tackles Red Storm Rising as a miniseries some day.
