This 512GB SanDisk GamePLAY microSD Express card is aimed at Switch 2 storage, where the Express format is required and much faster than regular microSD cards. The price is still high, but it is described as far below earlier Express card pricing and a better balance than the first wave of options. Sold and shipped by Walmart, it also carries less counterfeit worry than third party listings. The main caveat is that Express cards are a different standard, so compatibility matters, and the card is still expensive compared with non Express alternatives. A practical pick if you need Switch 2 storage now.
Switch 2 owners who want a 512GB expansion card, because Express cards are required and this price is far below earlier pricing.
Players with large digital libraries who keep many games installed, because 512GB can hold an entire original Switch library and still leave room for more.
Shoppers who want the lowest possible price on memory, because commenters compared it to much cheaper past 512GB prices and called the current price high.
$98 is described as much lower than earlier Express-card pricing, with similar cards previously running at least double that and 1TB options often around $130-$180. It is still considered pricey compared with older non-Express 512GB cards, which were far cheaper.
It is sold and shipped by Walmart, which makes it a safer buy than a third-party marketplace listing. The main concern raised is return acceptance rather than authenticity, since counterfeit SanDisk cards are common.
Yes, microSD Express is the required card type for Switch 2, and this card is made for devices that support the Express interface. Regular microSD/UHS cards are a different technology and are not the same thing.
I remember having the Samsung P9 512gb in my Amazon cart for $75 after black Friday and seeing it slowly climbing every week. It is now at $200 haha.
Yeah, feels like just yesterday. I almost bought the 1TB Lexar Express when Switch 2 was first announced for like $130 but I have had bad luck with Lexars in the past and opted in to try another brand. That sold out and people could not get that for like months after via Amazon. Lol
Costco has 1TB for $180. I got one on sale for $150 a little while back. I expect they'll go on sale again at some point if you'd like a bigger size and you're not in a hurry.
The onn cards at Walmart are still cheaper and work just as well.
My ONN card died after like 3 months and it was a nightmare to get Walmart to issue a refund (they wouldn't replace it for whatever reason). And then I had to spend more to get the same thing. I read lots of other people saying their ONN failed too. Will not buy another.
Yeah pretty sure this card was $78 at my store for months after the switch 2 released and now $20 more is deal. The gaming industry is not in a good place right now.

Yup, it's gotten to the point that it almost doesn't matter who you buy from; the primary concern is whether they'll accept the return.
A midsize YouTuber just made a video on this matter recently. I Forget the name but if anyone is interested in the scope of the problem just search "fake SanDisk SD cards" on YT will probably make it come up
Should be 50 bucks, I got 1.5 tb sd card 3 years ago for 90 bucks. It should go down even more not up
There are no 1.5TB SD Express cards to my knowledge. This is not the same technology opas a microSD card. The express card is superior and has always been more expensive. This card is for specific devices that only use an express card like a Switch 2.
So buying a bigger MSDC hasn't gone sky high either? As withing this post? LOL
Micro SD Express cards have increased in price. However, you dont "have to buy one". It is optimal to do so. If you look at devices that only came in 512GB or 1 TB+ configurations, the prices have been driven up significantly. Nintendo will only increase by $50 in the US.

The card is positioned as a Switch 2 requirement because microSD Express uses the express-card interface.
The deal price is framed as a meaningful discount versus earlier Express pricing that was at least double.
The listing is reported as sold and shipped by Walmart, which can reduce uncertainty about authenticity.
Some buyers expect larger Express capacities to go on sale later if storage needs are not urgent.
The $98 price is described as quite pricey compared with earlier 512GB Express pricing.
Compatibility concerns appear serious because the card reportedly does not work on any device.
Counterfeit risk is raised because fake SanDisk cards are reportedly widespread and buyers question third-party sourcing.
Return acceptance is flagged as the main practical risk, regardless of which seller is involved.
