This LAMTTO box turns a wired CarPlay or Android Auto head unit into a wireless system with built in Android, streaming apps, and screen mirroring. It stands out for video playback and extra app access, with YouTube and Netflix working for some setups and the interface feeling more capable than basic wireless dongles. Setup can be slow, though, and several reports call out lag, heat, and occasional crashes. Compatibility also looks picky, especially around wired versus wireless CarPlay, hotspot use, and getting streaming apps online.
Common Questions (5)
It can run very hot and may throttle or crash under load, especially in smaller-profile designs. Performance is also reported as slow or sluggish for video and app use, though it is still considered more capable than cheaper $20-$30 dongles.
Yes, it has built-in Android apps and can display streaming apps on the head unit when the phone hotspot is enabled. Video playback can be sluggish, and some users report YouTube or other apps failing with a no-internet error.
It is meant for a wired head unit that already supports CarPlay or Android Auto, and it converts that connection to wireless while adding streaming features. It does not solve a car that already has only wireless CarPlay and no wired input.
Wireless CarPlay uses Wi‑Fi, so hotspotting from the same phone can be blocked while the adapter is connected. A workaround is a dual-WiFi setup or a unit with built-in GPS, otherwise you may need to reconnect the hotspot manually when switching out of CarPlay.
It typically connects through Apple CarPlay first, then Android Auto can be opened from the home screen. Switching to Android Auto mode takes longer and still requires an extra tap, so it does not boot straight into Android Auto.

Even bought an old iphone but since wireless carplay requires wifi, I couldn't simultaneously use it with the hotspot on my Android phone via wifi or bluetooth.
The only current solutions are to spend $400 on a separate MMI box and a complexish installation or switch to iPhone.
Wired doesn't work, tried every usb port.

That said, I tried the YouTube app and it worked, just pretty sluggish. The box did get a bit hot from setting it up and using it a bit, hope it doesn't get hotter than that.
Does anyone know if there's a way to get it to boot straight to Android Auto? If not I think I may just keep using my Motorola dongle.

It states no internet connection, even when it's connected to the phone.
