Its nothing special or fast. it has really long plastic ends of the cable which make it cumbersome to handle if you're constantly pluging it in and taking it out. Really hard to bend the cable at a decent right-angle. I literally haven't used it since testing it. Its been sitting in a drawer.
the Ivanky thunderbolt 5 intel-certified that comes and goes here on SD on sale is a legit cable. It never fails me no matter what peripherals I hook up to my laptops (Mac/PC) it transfers at full speed. IIRC the IVANKY was around $17 on sale.
I also picked up a Apple ThunderBolt 4 usb-c cable from woot for $30 and its a thick high-quality cable that connects securely everytime with that snap/click its very reassuring. It works 100% everytime I use it, no need to second guess. The only thing is, it's expensive ($30 is pricey to me) but well worth it for something that is guaranteed to work 100% of the time. No need to touble shoot, roll the dice, gamble back-and-fourth on Amazon crap.
If anyone said they need a fast speed thunderbolt cable that will work for sure I would suggest Apple Thunderbolt cables and guarantee it will work as fast as possible. If its not working/performing properly, then it's most likely the host machine usb-c port and not the cable.

Like I stated before, in my experience with many "thunderbolt" cables from amazon I've probably spent more than $80 total on those cables as a gamble hoping I get a good one. Which the Ivanky one is out of probably 20-25 different ones I've purchased thoughout the years.
Even with the Ivanky one I was skeptical but it retailed for a lot more ($35) and others stated it is a legit high-speed cable.
But with the Apple TB 4 cable I had a high degree of confidence it would work, it retails for $130 🤣 it better work for that cost. And I took a shot on it as well for $30.
Its a far superior cable for the average person that doesn't know anything but wants speed, reliability, and quality (gotta pony up the cash)
P.S.
I did use a CalDigit TB dock that came with a cable and their TB cable was high-speed and high-quality. but I ended up selling it soon after getting it so I didn't use it very long but it worked flawlessly.

- thicker copper wires
- twisted + shielding for less data interference
- thicker jacket/coating + braided outer layer
there are similar cheaper alternatives for sure.none with the reputation of Apple and the high cost, so I haven't seen many that have been dismantled and broken down and checked for quality.
Like I stated before, if an average non-technical person asked for a cable that will work I'd point them towards the Apple Thunderbolt. If they want to roll the dice/gamble get a bunch from amazon and test them, then return the ones that dont work.
That takes time and effort to test and return. Apple cable just simplifies it, and you know what you're getting. Its really up to the person if its worth the money cost or their time. Majority of the average people don't have the technical knowledge or time so its an easy recommendation for me.

By the way, Apple's 1m long TBT5 cable is identical to their TBT4 cable. Thunderbolt 4 and up is just USB4, and USB4 80Gbps (read: Thunderbolt 5) is designed to operate on passive cables previously certified to 40Gbps (read: Thunderbolt 4).
