thin steel. it's ss but remember that any steel can rust with enough time outdoors. when it's this thin, it will rust and fall apart. check the reviews, it shows pictures of it rusting and falling apart. save your money and buy a thicker steel ss.

we got this recently for a camping trip and really liked it, much smaller when packed up then our previous one and seemed to be more "smokeless"

Only 1 of 644 reviews, or 1 of the 46 1 star reviews mention this. What alternatives can you leave on the rain/outside and don't rust?

For what its worth I purchased this model for our RV. It packs up nicely and comes with a case. I like that it lets light through on the top. It does not let more heat through the top then other smokeless pits.
Also, we found it was not as 'smokeless' as the solid wall one it replaced. The air flows up but enters the burn area at the bottom of the 'vented' sides vs flowing all the way to the top on the other solid side models. Still works well, just not as good for a clean burn IMO.
Something Like this (I do not know of this one is good) may be more smokeless. https://a.co/d/0d42Urnu
You may still want to try it for 60. Just letting you know the downside.

I bought this but returned it after looking it over. Not so much a great deal as it is a get what you pay for. This would not survive long outdoors, and I didn't want a firepit I'd have to clean and store indoors after each use.

It's definitely designed more towards weekend camping rather than as a longer term outdoor fire pit. It would probably be just fine for quite awhile if it's only left out in the rain occasionally and then dried before packing up camp.

Do these even radiate heat? It seems if airflow is going straight up how would the heat radiate?

Got the Ozark Trail "smokeless" fire pit about a year ago and it's great. Def not something to leave out in the weather but this says it's collapsible, just like the one I have. Just take it apart and store it somewhere out of the rain.

A wood fired stove's airflow is directed out of a flue, same with a chimney and fireplace -- heat is radiant. Infrared radiates in all directions from the heat source, and even a conventional firepit's airflow will be "up," so in short these stoves will still put out heat.

The window is a cool idea I love my solo stove but you have to be right in front of it to see the flames

Got this and had a solo stove before...
Huge difference between them. Solo stove is a real smokeless design.
This still makes smoke, a lot less than a basic fire pit, but not like a solo stove.
For the price this is still great.
I do not have left outside in the rain, its small and light, so i move it to the garage
