Don't but this. Porter Cable is dead. Tractor Supply was the last place that sold new Porter Cable power tools, which were rebranded Black&Decker brushed tools...complete crap. Tractor Supply is dropping Porter Cable and will be selling Skil 20v instead, so they are getting rid of their remaining Porter Cable inventory. No one would every spend the regular $149 for the bare tool, and since it is a bare tool, you'll still you to buy a battery that is powerful enough to run a full size circular and a charger. Either buy a corded circular saw (the Skil 15amp is usually around this price) or a property cordless circular batteries and charger...there are solid 6 1/2" or 7 1/4" cordless circular saws that you can get with a decent battery and charger for $100-$150. The deal at Harbor for the Hercules starter kit at $119 is a very solid deal and will buy this Porter Cable piece of crap out of the water.

Porter-Cable 20V Max tools are indeed on the way out, but not nearly as crappy as you make out. For one thing, batteries are essentially the same as B+D 20V Max batteries, requiring only a easily done mod on the top of either one (P-C or B+D 20V Max) to be useable in either tool line--including chargers!
I suspect you're clutching your pearls on the mention of B+D 20V tools--but they've been fine for me for years, including garden tools as well as shop/woodworking tools. So particularly if you've already invested in that cordless line, and want a light duty saw to use for certain quick tasks, this might be a good fit. And yes, you can't beat a corded tool for serious work, provided you're in cord length range.

I've had porter cable for about 15 years now and this circular saw is one I don't have and could use.

I still have an impact driver in the box for when mine eventually dies (from when Lowe's got rid of them). Maybe if nobody buys these, I'll buy a drill and jigsaw to hold until them too lol.

You're forgetting people like me, who have 6ah Porter Cable batteries and plenty of chargers to go with a tool like this. The "Porter Cable cordless tools are dead" line has been around for at least ten years, which is appropriate because my ten-year-old PC tools are still working great. And nobody in their right mind is paying MSRP for any cordless tool, even Milwaukee, DeWalt, Bosch, Makita, etc., so the $149 "regular" price doesn't mean anything, just like with all cordless tools.

I've had the older version of this 10 years ago, for a homeowner it was awesome. I gave them away to a new younger first time homeowner. Those things will run another 10 years.

I don't even bother buying Porter Cable batteries. I'm still using the original two that came with my first tools. I've since ordered some additional 3rd party knock-off batteries for a fraction of the branded models. You do have to be careful with 3rd party batteries though.. shady manufacturers will put smaller capacity batteries in and sell the packs as higher Amp-hr batteries. Check the reviews to look for capacity complaints.
I bought a couple supposedly slightly higher capacity packs through Amazon. I think they're probably the same capacity as the stock batteries despite how they're labeled.. but they still cost 1/2 as much as branded packs so it's still a deal. I'll have to crack one of the 3rd party packs open to see what batteries are actually in it though.
As for Gar03001's larger point. Yea, I wouldn't buy into a Porter Cable ecosystem now.. but if you've got tools and batteries and a charger(s) already.. this is a great deal on a brushless battery powered 7-1/4" circular saw.
Despite early concerns about buying budget tools (budget compared to festool, Milwaukee, DeWalt, etc).. I've had zero real problems with my other Porter Cable tools.. and I've been using some of them (as a hobbiest with an OLD house) for about 15 years now. Here's my complaints in total.. plastic grip around the speed chuck on drill (I'd prefer all steel). Drill chuck doesn't hold VERY small bits. The Sawzall just tears through battery power. That's it.
Also, one of my employees picked up some of the Skil cordless tools when Lowes was blowing them out a while back.. and I was actually pretty impressed with how well them seemed made. They feel like an upgrade over PC so I wouldn't say no to a good deal on those either. My one and only complaint is that Skil is going into the multi-tool space and I don't trust them over the long term. I loved my old Rigid combo-oscillating tool. You could snap off the head and attach a right-angle drill head. The problem with it was.. it made an OK oscillating tool.. but only a barely passable right-angle drill.. and the added complexity lead to me now having a tool with a failed clutch in it.
