Ordered this multiple times. First two jars were individually wrapped in bubble wrap and arrived intact with other items. Each of the next three attempts at ordering resulted in each shipment making it to my local delivery center only to be automatically returned and refunded before the delivery attempt. My guess is they busted and leaked through the box so I stopped ordering.
Tldr - if ordered, order as separate shipment when possible and cross fingers

I've ordered 9 bottles over 7 shipments and never had any broken.

That's great to hear. I'll give it another try.

Limiting it to only a couple jars each shipment may be they key. I only ordered 2 jars the first time to try the flavor and those arrived in a box with other items without issue. The following orders contained the max allowed qty of 10 or 12 in each shipment to stock up when they were running sales on it for less than $1 a jar last year (https://slickdeals.net/f/18686344) and early this year. I also ordered the factory packaged 12 packs thinking they might have a better chance of survival and successful delivery, however those also were automatically returned to shipper and refunded after tracking info said they reached the last stop before delivery attempt.

How far out was the "best if used by" date on them?

If I remember correctly, the first two I received back then had a date at least a year out, which was also why I was going to stock up. I also planned to share with family.

At the time of that sale, the item kept going in and out of stock. When it would come back in stock it would often show a future ship date, which to me meant it was going to be recently manufactured product with max best before date.

Nothing like saving a dollar over grocery store prices and then having to spend an afternoon on chat trying to get them to pick up their smashed mess.

No kidding. I'm with you. I ordered 4 jars twice, all came broken and all over the other items in the box. Vons/Albertsons/Pavillions puts them on sale about every 3 weeks for $1.99 or less. Not chancing it again with Amazon. I've never been asked to return anything that's broken, they just refunded my money. But you do have to call or use their chat method. PITA.

I always get the 45oz or 67oz plastic jars from Amazon, no breakage worries.
