Just by looking down on tee boxes, I've managed to collect thousands of tees for free. I use a Martini tee which lasts forever until lost.

I leave some in the ground, I break plastic ones, I hit the tee further than my ball, and sometimes the tee even goes backwards. A few extra in the bag can't hurt.
