The Complete Calvin and Hobbes box set is a hefty collector edition that delivers the full strip run in one place, with strong appeal for rereading, gifting, and passing down. The set is praised for its lasting value, imaginative humor, and the way it bridges generations, and later editions likely have improved binding over the original glued pages. The hardcovers are heavy and not ideal for everyday reading, and the box set is more of a table book than a portable format. At about $89.48 after coupon, it sits near the low end of recent pricing and compares reasonably with buying the individual volumes.
Common Questions (4)
Later editions reportedly have improved binding, likely stitched instead of the original glued pages that could fail. The hardcovers are still heavy and unwieldy for everyday reading, so they work better as a collector set or for occasional use than as a daily carry-around edition.
Yes. The full set weighs around 20 pounds, and each hardcover volume is described as heavy and unwieldy for everyday reading, which is why some prefer the paperback or Portable Compendium editions.
The Portable Compendium is easier to read comfortably because each volume is two paperback books in a sleeve and is much more manageable. The hardcover box set is more of a collector piece and may need to be read at a table, while the compendium volumes have often sold for about $9-$12 each.
The set is around $90, which is considered reasonable for the full collection. Buying the individual volumes separately can run about $75 for the first six alone, and the seven paperbacks may cost more than the box set even with deals.

90 bucks for this set isn't bad at all. The 7 paperbacks will probably run you more than that even with deals.
