I can't tolerate the lack of gull wing doors. It's just lazy designing on the part of Lego.

The previous version had gull wing doors. The problem is at this scale, you can make it look nice or be functional but not both. Not only does the new one look significantly better, but it also allows fits 2 minifigs.

Wouldn't you only need to buy 2 sets? The description says there's only 2 build variants for this smaller set. The $100+ bigger one should be the one with 3 build variants.

It does have the abillity to build 2 versions, but you can only build one version at a time. If you want to have all 3 versions, you'll need to buy 3 (and create your own modification for the 3rd movie)
