I have the 51 mm version and love it. I honestly would have thought 51 would have been too big, but this was given to me as a very very generous gift, and I'm happy they took a chance on the 51, because I love it. Might be too big for a lot of people, but I sleep with it, do yoga with it, do landscaping, long distance road biking, weightlifting, and have no complaints. I appreciate the longer battery life the 51 offers versus the 47. Besides that, the .1 inch screen size difference, and I believe a slightly better resolution, I think they're mostly very similar otherwise.

I used a fenix 6 for 4 years prior to this, had a forerunner before that. been very happy with all of them.

also, I always ditch the bands they come with, and get fabric velcro straps from AliExpress. I buy four or five of them in different colors, and I think they're usually between two and four bucks each. just make sure you get the right size for your watch.

on the rare occasion the bands need to be washed, I either secure the velcro and throw them in with My regular laundry, or sometimes I put them in a mesh bag in case I'm worried about the velcro coming open then damaging other clothes. I dry them in the dryer, and haven't had an issue with deterioration, but if you're worried, I guess you could just hang/ AirDry them.

it's not just the hardware, there are no more software updates and the fenix7/epix2 firmware is buggy as hell right now with Garmin in no rush to fix it

spending $500 on Fenix7/Epix2 right now would be incredibly foolish

there will be much better deals in a few months

remember only the Fenix8 and related watches can run four CIQ datafields at the same time, the Fenix7/Epix2 only two

even the FenixE is a better watch than the Epix2

Sort of. The epix pro gen 2 has an amoled screen like the fenix 8 and unlike the Fenix 7. Yes, it lacks a speaker and mic, but unless you plan to use that a lot, at $500, this is a fantastic deal. Sure, you can wait around and hope the Fenix 8 drops to this price in another year or spend 2x to get the Fenix 8, but unless you are upgrading every year, your watch will be a model year old eventually, so get the Epix for 1/2 the cost of a Fenix 8.

I have the Epix 2 and love it. But I also bought it when it was $500 a few years ago. I would wait for Amazon Prime Days and see if it drops a little lower.

Even if Garmin watches get discontinued and no future features or updates are planned, Garmin will always keep their watches in working and syncing condition. My Vivoactive HR (2016) is still able to sync to Garmin Connect then upload to Strava. People have reportedly been able to still sync their watches. Meanwhile, a Samsung Galaxy Watch (2018) of mine is no longer able to sync in any way, whatsoever.

And even if your Garmin watch theoretically falls out of bluetooth support to connect to your phone, the cable charger can be used to plug in to PC/Mac through Garmin Express software and upload the data directly to Garmin Connect Web portal.
This is the biggest reason Garmin watches hold their value even in used market. The original functionality you bought them for will still work YEARS down the line. Even if battery life drops, 16 days drops down to like 10 or 8 days of battery life which is still longer than majority of smart watches out there.

You can purchase a Fenix8 for 750, and that's worth it . This is old stuff. Price suck too, always appear on Slickdeals for 500. Maybe 300 , and I would still debate I would still debate
For most of us, it's just a watch on your wrist, that tells time . Yeah, I have running , GPS, diving , but do I really care or use . I use the LED light ,but to spend 500 for a watch with LED.....eh..I mean you can buy a Samsung Bravia 5 for 500 that was 1,400..
You always find better deals on other stuff , something to think about it ...
