Tokina's atx-i 11 to 16 millimeter f 2.8 is a sharp ultra wide zoom for Nikon F mount APS C bodies, and the $149 price stands out as especially strong for a new lens from a legit dealer. It is described as solidly built, made in Japan, and useful for indoor group shots, landscapes, and astrophotography. The main catch is compatibility, since it is designed for DX sensors and needs a Nikon body with an internal focus motor for screw drive autofocus. On full frame it falls back to crop mode and loses the wider coverage, so it fits best when that format is what you need.

  • The deal price is described as favorable compared with prior resale and trade-in experiences for earlier versions.

  • The lens can work perfectly on Nikon D7000 and D3300 APS-C bodies, filling an ultra-wide gap for indoor group photos.

  • The lens feels incredibly solid and is made in Japan, which supports confidence in day-to-day handling.

  • The lens can be used on Z-mount systems with an FTZ adapter, expanding compatibility beyond F-mount DSLRs.

  • The lens may require a Nikon body with an internal focus motor, depending on the specific ATX-I versus ATX-II autofocus setup.

  • The lens is designed for DX format and will vignette on FX full-frame bodies, making edge coverage poor at the wide end.

  • The autofocus motor type differs between ATX-I and ATX-II, so compatibility with certain F-mount bodies and Z+FTZ setups can vary.

  • Bokeh on DX sensors may be limited to an f/4 equivalent, which can affect subject separation expectations.

I'v e had and sold it. It's good enough that I wanted to buy it yesterday, but couldn't justify it in my head. I Just purchased a vehicle etc....Came back today to the $299.

I have a ton of wide angle lenses already.

If you needed wide angle I'll say this lens is even worth adapting to other cams at $150....

I have the Nikon AF 50mm f/1.4 AF & AF-D NIKKOR (1986-2021) that I got for 130 from eBay. The best lens by far and compares against 1k lens. Makes every pic I take look professional. By far the best lens I've ever used. It's the only one I use indoors. Even outdoors if I don't need zoom. But I can also crop images and still get the best quality images I've ever taken. I am not a hobbiest. Just have two lens. This one and a Nikon 18-70. I keep getting praise from photography hobbiest when I share my f1.4 pics from the 130 dollar lens.

Great lens, but make sure your Nikon body has an internal focus motor.
That's the thing with Nikon -- "we have ONLY one mount for compatibility!" ... except that you need a secret decoder ring to figure out all the nuances and exceptions.

"If it fits, I sits" does NOT apply here....oh boy, does it not.

AF motor drive, AF chip, etc. And then there are separate bespoke exceptions depending on the model you have. "Such and such works on all bodies in this series, except for....well, that one. It's special."

Phenomenal deal - ordered just in time and received the lens today. Mounted it on both my Nikon D7000 & D3300 and it works perfectly on both APS-C bodies.

I already have a decent collection of prime lenses, but an ultra-wide was the one major gap in my kit. This lens pretty much completes my setup. It's exactly what I was missing for indoor group photos and large gatherings where backing up isn't an option.

The lens feels incredibly solid (Made in Japan, too). Looking forward to taking it out for landscape and astrophotography soon. Thanks for sharing the deal! 🙂
