Another complaint is how easily the locking button breaks if you have an unlucky drop, even if it's a modest fall.
Also complaints about the durability of the finish and bottle overall being questionable.
The insulation is not as good as people expect. Speaking from personal experience, I got a 40 oz sway from this deal and noticed right away that ice water makes the outside of the bottle feel cool. I've been using a simple modern summit 32 oz for several years and I'm accustomed to how its exterior feels when filled with ice water; it does not feel cool to the touch in any significant or noticeable way. More importantly, I think that a standard mixture of ice and water does stay cold / icy longer in my simple modern summit than it does in the owala sway.
The YouTube channel called bottle pro has some interesting water bottle (etc) reviews and educational videos. The YouTuber feels that even though there is a measurable difference in how effectively various brands/models insulate, most products will be fine for most people for standard, everyday use.
I'm not sure how much I agree with him because when you get used to a certain level of insulation performance, it is disappointing when you use a lesser product and your drink does not stay cold as long.
(Interesting tidbit: Walmart's Ozark Trail water bottles tend to outperform Yeti for insulation.)
A few notes about the 40 oz sway. It is really quite tall. When it is full or nearly full, it can be hard to hold it because it's heavy and it's just not the easiest to get a grip on the bottle (obviously going to be easier for people with larger hands). I wish I had gotten the 30 oz version; It would fit better in my elliptical's water bottle slot. With the 40 oz sway, I'm almost worried that it's going to fall out completely because it is so tall and tends to be top-heavy.
It does strike me as feeling a little bit thin and cheaply made, which is why the complaints on Amazon got my attention. In all fairness, I am very accustomed to the feel of my 32 oz simple modern summit, but I don't necessarily think that my instinct that the sway could be easily scratched, dented or damaged was incorrect.
Overall, I don't hate the 40-oz sway, but it has some quirks that keep me from loving it.
It will be nice to have a cupholder friendly, large, sippable insulated water bottle for car trips. My summit really doesn't fit in the cup holders very well, though it is sort of passable if I jam it in just right.
